had it for about a month & weather hasn't been below 30 F, but its kept me dry and warm so far. Its a good casual jacket & I plan to use it next year for skiing. For the SALE price it's worth the investment. My last NorthFace Hardshell Summit Series is 6yrs old & cost me [$], so the waterproof is worn out now. They don't make jackets like they used to anymore(rugged in every way). cheers!

Nice jacket. Fits great, looks great, but nowhere near warm enough. I was looking for an everyday winter jacket, and this isn't it. The wind seemed to go right through it. I returned it.

This jacket is very light and offers decent insulation. Be aware that although Primaloft is highly touted for its warmth it is not as warm as my North Face down filled jacket. Nonetheless the Plasma Thermal jacket completely blocks wind and water. Due to its snug athletic fit it does not accommodate much layering underneath.
I wear it for casual everyday use in Canadian winter with temperatures down to -20 Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit) with 30-50 kmh winds (20-30 mph). At these temperatures I would be wearing a long sleeve cotton shirt layered with a short sleeve cotton shirt underneath.

This NF jacket is the best NF jacket i've had. It's very versatile and comfortable during any weather. It gets pretty warm when you wear thick clothing or multiple layers under this NF jacket. I even wore this jacket in Florida last week during our vacation. That was during 50 plus degrees of weather. Overall, I love this jacket and I cant wait to try this jacket on our snowboarding trip next week.

The jacket and pocket liners are incredibly soft. I ride a bicycle around town everyday, regardless of the weather, and with this jacket on, I'm impervious to the elements. The jacket proved itself the other day when we had a sleet storm. I was warm and dry; water beads off of this thing like Teflon.
This thing is the real deal. Any day warmer than freezing and it's really too hot to wear.

After reading lots of reviews, I decided to review one for myself. At the beginning of the season, I saw this jacket retail for [$] GREAT DEAL from ems [...]. The hacket is ultra-lightweight, which is the first thing that you notice when you pick it up. The shell hyvent alpha is a laminate, unlike other hyvents, which is closer to goretex which is also a laminate. The fit is great and similar to other northface jackets, more fashionable and more of a "athletic fit." One previous member mentioned about the high collar and I have to agree, it's higher than the triclimate ones, looks funny without the hood but i think as a whole, keep the detachable hood on and you actually look like you're going to the summit... in fashion. also, the hood is great for wind. The durability of the jacket is impressive with the little details on the jacket noticeable too. In 20 degree temperatures, you will be warm with a thin longsleeve shirt underneath. I have yet to take it snowboarding. OVERALL: stylish, pretty warm, reliable.

Nice fitted jacket overall.
The threading has already come off near the zipper after two weeks.
The velcro on the sleeves eats away at the material...i.e. velcro rubber band is grabbing the jacket that's not protected by the velcro pad when the sleeve opening is at its widest.

The is is my first North face, even at 50% off it was pretty expensive. However this product is well worth the money. While being practically featherweight it provide extreme warmth. I have been using it everyday for the past 2 weeks in single digit weather with a light shirt underneath. The only minor issueI have noticed is that in very cold weather the material inside stiffens and crinckles.

[...] Now, this jacket is great. Out of the other two NF jackets I have this is the best NF jacket that i've had so far under my price ranges. It feels comfortable and warm even when I wear a long sleeve t-shirt under it, and it about 14 degrees outside here in NJ. Of course, if you ad more layers under this jacket then it will get warmer. You can adjust the hem, cuffs, and hood to any setting you are comfortable with. This jacket is fully-seamed sealed. Its kind of impossible for rain, wind, and snow to enter this jacket. Quality is superb and the best. Snowboarding with this jacket is highly recommended. Its a cool jacket and it will keep you warm.

This jacket is absolutely amazing. I can go out even in sub 20 degree weather with just a t-shirt underneath. When it's just freezing outside, I start sweating if i wear so much as a long sleeve shirt under this jacket. It looks and feels thin, but it truly is as warm as a down jacket. It is also amazingly wind/water proof. You can use this anywhere it gets extremely cold with lots of snow/wind/freezing rain and be extremely happy with your purchase. It is totally worth the money. (it also has lifetime warranty!)

During my Jr High days in the 80's, I owned the most amazing black Member's Only jacket -- remember them? Well, this one is BETTER! It keeps me warm, while it looks so cool. Plenty of pockets, primaloft rocks, and a hood that comes off when you don't need it -- that way everyone knows that you're wearing a North Face. Friends of mine notice that I'm wearing it, and I know they want one too. I would definately recommend it.

I just moved to Boston and needed something that was wind/waterproof and would keep me warm. This definitely is NOT the warmest jacket on the planet, but if you wear it inside for a few minutes before you go out it helps alot. I also picked up a north face denali fleece on sale and combining these two layers I've been comfortable from sub-zero temps to 40/50 snow rain days. Great jacket.

Whether walking to class, downhill skiing, or shoveling the driveway, this jacket keeps me plenty warm. It also blocks the wind and rain surprisingly well.

It isnt very warm, but keeps the cold out. I was able to wear a t shirt underneath when it was only 20F outside. I was surviving, but it wasnt warm at all. The inside of the jacket was cold. Need an insulating sweater that will keep the cold out. some sweaters are warm but do nothing to keep the cold or wind out.
The hood is also very good. The odd thing is that the pockets are warm, even though the inner surface of the jacket was cold.
It is light and thin and thats what i like about it. also it is waterproof and came in handy during that bizarre heavy snow then heavy rain in boston. I dont mind wearing an extra sweater inside since now i can wear this jacket through early spring (with T-shirt) without being too warm.

My intention was to replace a London Fog down coat with this product as the London Fog is going on 12 years and is beginning to show it's age. Luckily, on the day that I wore the North Face jacket, it was 5 below and I put the jacket immediately to the test; could it survive the Chicago commute. In short, I was cold the entire trip.
Eastern Mountain Sports Response:The key to note with this jacket is it's a waterproof breathable shell with "a little extra warmth" added. This is not intended to be a stand alone shelter of warmth for your upper body. Layering is the key with this paricular jacket.
