Comments about PETZL Arial 9.5 mm x 70 m Dry Climbing Rope:
The rope is very supple and handles great out of the box. The instruction booklet comes with the manufacturing date and serial # for your records. (I replace dyneema every 2 years, nylon every 8 years for age, assuming I don't replace them before that, due to wear) All I did to prepare for use, was to take it to the gym and run it through the anchors a couple times. It probably wasn't necessary, as it fed great into tube styles, Grigris and Mammut Smart belay devices. It didn't grab well initially in my Mammut Smart, but it works fine now. The middle mark was spot on, within a couple inches.
This is a 9.5 single, so it's not going to be your go-to workhorse project rope. It is not the best for top rope or sport where you'll do a lot of hangdogging. Get something thicker for that, for the lower stretch and higher durability.
The rope resists dirt fairly well, especially given the color. It's developed some fuzziness, but that is to be expected. Keep in mind, that it won't be as durable as a Mammut rope, but since Petzl ropes are now made by Edelrid, the quality is dramatically better than previous Petzl ropes. I still use my Tusk for my sport projects and top roping, but the Arial is my trad rope.
