Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Sentinel Down Parka - Men's:
I love EMS products for their quality and design. I live in Colorado where the weather can change quickly, and this coat adapts well by being waterproof, wind proof, warm (but not stiflingly so). Hood design and pockets all make sense - functionally. I have not had the coat a long time but based on the materials used it should be in service for years. I am very happy with this coat.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Sentinel Down Parka - Men's:
I was looking for a parka not too much expensive but still fine under several aspects: good looking, with many pockets, warm of course, windproof, water resistant and breathable. A very good parka may have many of other different details (and this parka is missing many of that stuff), but basically the listed above are for me a must. After browsing for a time, among the other parkas I decided to purchase this one to try it.
It is good looking in its basic style, with many pockets I haven't tried yet. I had worn it in windy, 10s and 20s winter weather and for a short time at the beginning of the storm Nemo, with consistent wind and snow. It was so far warm and yes, 100% windproof. It beads up moisture readily and it is a System Three 5k (I was told this means the parka is waterproof (up to 5k, therefore sufficiently) and sufficiently breathable, good for many purpose but not for every situation! SO FAR, anyway, it was just fine!). I gave 4 stars and not 5 because it needs to be "tested" furthermore: it will be still warm with lower temperatures (not always 650 is better than 550!)? In fact, yes it is not bulky and lightweight, but sometimes to have a little bit more of bulkiness (not "puffiness", anyway) and weight is what you need to stay really warm in very low temperatures, especially if you feel the cold more frequently than other people. In the future, I'm going to test what the previous poster Northern Light said: with a proper layering he was warm with temperature of -5 to -15 F (I'm sure he was ok with the wind: I tested it is 100% windproof). And I'm going to test the durability of the nylon shell and of the 2-way zipper (that is more than fairly easy to use). The hood adjusts 3 ways and not 2 as EMS writes, and this is a plus (it is for a perfect fit, a must in windy conditions) and it compensates the fact it is not removable. It was warm too, so far. The zip off fur is synthetic (a real fur is one of the several stuff I said are missing), but I accept that because the parka is not too much expensive. There are waist and hem cinch cords, and for me it's ok, but there is no snow-skirt. There is no insulation at the level of the throat, and this is naother thing to test at lower temperatures: it will be fine with a proper scarf or something like that? The adjustable cuffs are fine.
As many posters wrote, it is true that feathers do come out of the inside nylon lining (it seems thin). So far I was never covered in feathers, but anytime I wear the parka I do get a few on my fleece: there will be enough feathers to stay warm as I need in 5 years? This is definitely a thing to be improved. This is so far the only Con, and that's because I want say: yes, this is the best parka (pending the tests I have still to do) I found among all the others, but only as regards the sale price (50% about).
Overall, I am satisfied.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Sentinel Down Parka - Men's:
Only problem I have is plucking off feathers each time I wear the jacket; inside lining is thin. Otherwise, jacket fits great and hope it'll last me a few years.

Great coat. This was the winter to have it in the northeast. I had to use the elastic strings to adjust it to where it fit just right.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Sentinel Down Parka - Men's:
i purchased this jacket to replace another ems jacket i got years ago and now they do not make it anymore. love the jacket, couldn't be happier with it. can't beat the quality of this jacket for the price(sale price paid). i am an avid ice fisherwomen during the winter months, i'm outside in the cold all day long and snowmobiling from fishing spots. my friends have jackets made specifically for ice fishing and they paid big money for them. this jacket is just as good if not better than theirs. love all the pockets for gear and the insulated hood is to die for! i have yet to be cold in this parka!!! i have a hard time finding rugged womens outdoor clothing and i love that a ems mens small will fit me... i'm 5' 3" and 125lb female. on a personal note i ordered a green parka but it is a little to bright for me so i would prob get black the next time. GO EMS!!!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Sentinel Down Parka - Men's:
I love this jacket so much I bought a second for future use. My only complaint about this jacket is depending on the sweater I'm wearing under the jacket I get a lot of feathers pulled through the liner of the coat. I end up looking like a bird when I take the jacket off. Other than that this jacket is prefect for upstate NY weather when you just don't know what going to come out of the sky.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Sentinel Down Parka - Men's:
This parka is very well designed and very warm for it's weight. The hood especially is great in that it adjusts 3 ways, to give you a perfect fit. It's 650-fill down makes such a nice difference over standard 550-fill in other brands. I have tested many other down alternatives, and this is one of the very best in all aspects. With proper layering this would keep you toasty even in the Arctic! It is very lightweight which another huge bonus. The only minor criticism I have is the interior lining while very soft, could be a bit more durable. It hasn't ripped at all, but I think it should be stronger. Still overall the best down jacket I've found so far! Grab one while you can!!
