I've owned at least a half dozen serious pairs of footwear for hiking. On the maiden 25 mile with backpack outing these boots were the most comfortable and driest ever. No blisters. Even better, absolutely no toe jamming.

Comments about Oboz 1022306 OBOZ Men's Yellowstone II Hiking Boots:
I have larger feet where some size 13 boots almost fit and some size 12 almost fit. A 12.5 would probably be a sure fit, but those aren't made. I had previously tried a low cut pair of Oboz hiking shoes, however, while the fit was great, they pitched me forward, which was enough to feel awkward.
Fast forward 6 months later getting back to finding a pair of boots, and while trying a number of different mid-height boots, I landed on these. Perfect! Size 12 fits well, lots of toe room, and solid ankle and foot support. I find myself wearing these almost daily, and on the trail they do what they are supposed to do. They do require some break-in. I even bought a second pair for when these wear out, they fit that well.

Comments about Oboz 1022306 OBOZ Men's Yellowstone II Hiking Boots:
Again, not 'avid' - just part of my job as a (now) retried U Professor to be outside a lot doing mopho-geography/geology focused on call it Northern Nevada. Before I said I didn't LOVE these boots, especially after the old EMS boots I had for years. ----- now I can say just a few more things: 1) -- I stopped messing with all the new 'high tech' socks everyone said I needed and went back to my old 'tube' cotton socks -- WOW! -- AMAZING! -- They became even more comfortable and a LOT cooler in Nevada in late July/early August even after I soaked them with water proofing. Now I WOULD NOT WEAR THESE IN DEEP SNOW - that is snow deeper than call it 3-4 inches because it would over-flow the water-proof part -- but the cotton sure keeps the heat and moisture build up down. 2) -- I've (I think) expanded the type of use they can be used for - I loved to wear my old boots at work and then in the field, no getting used to a 'new' feel. These are comfortable and not too hot for every-day use. They have been SOAKED a few times when I've crossed streams where I KNEW they'd get wet -- but a wipe down, a few minutes in the sun, and a dry pair of socks fixed everything back to normal -- so in summer they can get soaked and dry out fast enough to keep moving, but I would not do that in winter or really stormy, wet, COLD conditions -- maybe high-tech socks would help, but the amount of water-proofing I put on my boots may prevent that. 3) -- After maybe 500 miles (guessing here of course) souls are showing a tiny bit of wear, some cuts from lavic rock (and a few shallow 'cuts' on the rubber uppers), but they don't leak, and I've come to trust them on nearly any surface I'm on -- if it was walking down the hall to get to a class or taking grad students out into the Great Basin or up into the Cascade/Sierra that 'narrow' box toe doesn't bother me as much as it used to. And I am AMAZED AT THEIR TRACTION ON ALL SURFACES -- EVEN DAMP SMOOTH ROCKS!!!! ------ BOTTOM LINE: A) -- worried about the cloth gussets the laces go through even though they don't YET show wear and tear B) -- WHEN I CHANGED TO COTTON TUBE SOCKS THE BOOTS BEGAN TO FEEL MORE LIKE BOOTS!! --- I don't LOVE these boots yet, but I like them a LOT - enough to spend a few moments here adding to my review and pointing out that plain old tube cotton socks work best fore ME when I'm out and about - and they don't take any care at all. The Boot's been water-proofed and forgotten - the fact that I don't even think about the boot is maybe the highest praise I can add to my original post - cotton socks and I don't even think about the boot holding me or me and a sack of rocks over any kind of surface. But I don't think they will be better than those Canadian Winter Boots they make for super cold weather and super wet snow. I'd not trust these boots in that kind of environment, but they were not built for that - so if you stick to what they were built for, you'll be fine -- and think about tube cotton socks if you feel your feet are too hot, or of you spill water into them because you had to cross a stream/river -- just dry them out for a bit, you probably need a break anyway! --

I've used these for long ,consecutive, day hikes and found them so comfortable that I also wear them for everyday use. They're super comfortable and required very little break in time. Recently bought a second pair, just in case they decide to stop making them :-)

Comments about Oboz 1022306 OBOZ Men's Yellowstone II Hiking Boots:
These are arguably the best looking hiking boots out there. The construction is great and the material seems very very sturdy -- as if it could last for ever. However, I had one complaint about these: I didn't feel like I got much stickiness to the ground on wet surfaces. I've used shoes with vibram in the past and I was expecting something similar, but the shoes seemed to slip on wet surfaces. I have to admit I used them only twice before returning them and I wish I had given them some more time but I didn't want to wear them out before taking them back to the store. I don't know what pair I'll be replacing them with, but it'll most likely be a pair with vibram. I would still recommend them to people who like relative stiff boots and don't necessarily need them for wet surfaces.

Comments about Oboz 1022306 OBOZ Men's Yellowstone II Hiking Boots:
After only three-and-a-half months of wearing these boots up to three times a week for three-to-four hours a day and seeing the soles wear thinner and thinner much faster than expected, a bubble in the sole of one of the boots blew and I found myself walking on foam. The rubber soles at the heels is much thinner than it seems from the images on here, unless my pair was simply defective (EMS thought it was).
The boots are quite comfortable and only needed a short break-in period (a couple of short dayhikes), but I'd only suggest them for the occasional dayhiker rather than someone that would use them on a more regular basis.
Highly disappointing, given the other sterling reviews of the product.

Boots were very nice but too small, and I wound up just going to my local EMS (which didn't have them in stock) and bought another Oboz model. I will say the delivery, return and credit of my account were incredibly fast and well-done. Great customer service!
