  • TUBBS Flex ALP 24 Snowshoes

Designed to tackle extreme backcountry terrain, the Tubbs Flex ALP Snowshoes have a heel lift bar and to take the strain out of long ascents.

    Features/Benefits:

    • Patented Flex tail allows the snowshoe to roll more naturally underfoot from heel strike to toe-off
    • Flex tail reduces the amount of shock from initial heel strike, reducing stress on the ankles, knees, and hips
    • Torsion deck allows natural articulation throughout the snowshoe to better adapt to uneven terrain
    • Rotating toe cord allows the tail of the snowshoe to drop, shedding snow and allowing the toe crampon to bite deeply
    • Asymmetric Active flex binding provides gender-specific comfort and control for a wide range of boot sizes
    • Active-lift heel bar makes long ascents easier on the calves
    • 3D curved traction rails provide great grip on sidehills, hard-packed snow, and icy conditions
    • Curved section of front rail provide traction at toe-off without tripping you up
    • Aggressive Viper 2.0 crampon made with long carbon steel tangs for a deeper bite
    • Concave shaped crampon teeth scoop and hold soft snow for increased traction

Comments about TUBBS Flex ALP 24 Snowshoes:

I used these for the first time this weekend, and they rocked! As advertised - flexible, light, and easy to put on and take off. The crampons/grip here are just insanely effective. My trip was a 3 mile climb up the falling waters trail in the white mtns, NH. The trail was really steep, ice/snow mix the whole time, and the summit is above treeline. I particularly enjoyed deploying the little bars the flip up to raise your heel, which can be done with a pole. These bars made the ascent so much easier, its kind of funny. My calves had about half the normal workout! Once you try this feature you'll probably never buy a pair of snowshoes without it again. My only gripe about these are that becuase the heel is on a platform rather than in a cut-out section of the snowshoe, it does not go below the level of the shoe. So basically when you descend, you cannot get your heel into the snow, and so the angle of your leg is awkward coming down. In very deep snow this would not be much of an issue, but in the medium snow up there, it wasn't working for me. I took them off half way down and used my crampons instead. Note: you could get away with using no crampons on a snowy day, peaking in these snowshoes. The traction on these is so insane that they work better than crampons in some conditions. Another issue is that I'd like to see optional extenders like with the MSR snowshoes. These have a very small surface area and so in very deep snow and with a lot of weight in the pack they are not going to help you stay on top of the snow that well.

Pros

  • Bindings Are So Easy
  • Very sturdy

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Adirondack Peaks

Comments about TUBBS Flex ALP 24 Snowshoes:

Only been out 4 times but put them on and forgot about them. My 12 year old has them too and just moved out in them. The heel lifts are great and really easy to move up and down with your pole grips or hands. One day in pretty heavy/wet snow an virtually no clumping. The bindings are a breeze (I rented some MSR's and was disappointed in the bindings) I'm set for quite a while.

i use the flex alp's for hiking in the steep country of southern utah. our snow usually crusts up and will support the smaller shoe. very light weight and easy to walk around obsticles and through the trees. i reccomend them for this type of snowshoeing

      Pros

      • Easy and simple bindings
      • Lateral traction
      • Light Weight

      Cons

      • Heel strap release

      Best Uses

      • Rolling terrain
      • Traversing

Comments about TUBBS Flex ALP 24 Snowshoes:

I have used MSR for several years, but have finally gotten fed up with their bindings. I bought the Flex Alps for guests because of the simplicity and ease of use of the bindings, but began increasingly to use them myself. I have been very pleased with their performance in some pretty demanding terrain - we live in the Voralpen (alpine foothills) region of Upper Austria and Salzburg, so climbing and traversing, often well laden, is important to us. I still like the MSRs, but their bindings seem to be getting worse instead of better. I am considering buying Ladies' Flex Alps for my wife, as I am tired of the wet knees and frozen hands of getting her into her MSR bindings.
