Comments about OSPREY Kestrel 48 Backpack:
I've used the pack twice for day hikes and once for a backpacking trip. I purchased the M/L and the pack fits pretty comfortably and conforms to my body and movement. The rain cover is integrated in the pack with its own pocket--it came in handy my first hike. The size is just right for me, but I bought it that way. I love the expandable shovel pocket--I put shed layers there or trash I pick up on the trail. Very convienient.
Few suggestions for the pack designers:
I'm a 34 inch waist, and I wish I could cinch the waist strap a little bit tighter. Also, the side pockets expand into the interior of the pack--subtracting the amount of internal space. I wish they poked out. I like to put easy-to-access items (like first aid kit, rope) on side pockets.

Comments about OSPREY Kestrel 48 Backpack:
We did an overnite hike to Havasu Falls, AZ and this pack was perfect for the job. All the pack adjustments were utilized and made the load (25 lbs about)almost unnoticable. I also purchased the 3L water bladder that easily fit into the external sleeve of the pack, even when the pack was loaded. Only drawback was the strap on front for attaching walking poles; it rubbed inside of arm, but I duct taped over it and may just cut it off. Wish that feature was removable. I had room for all carried for our 22 mile hike in 27 hours and know I will get a lot of great use from this light and sturdy pack. Just FYI, my son went out upon our return and purchased an Osprey 65; impressed with mine!
