Comments about SALOMON Men's Cosmic 4D 2 GTX Backpacking Boots:
Ok, the color is a bit whacky, no arguments there! However, don't let that fool you. I received these boots a few weeks ago and have abused them right out of the box. The first thing you'll notice is how light they are compared to Garmonts and other brands. I bought these to replace the Garmonts I bought at EMS a few years back. I thought limited weight would reduce the stability of the boot, but not a chance. Great grip and support, super comfortable, they shed water (and snow, and ice, and mud, and the stream near my house) and they stay dry and warm inside. Thats the recipe for a happy camper...literally. Yes, they are a hideous color, but it grew on me...not like radioactive mold, though. If you need some great gear for the woods, look no further. Enjoy!

Comments about SALOMON Men's Cosmic 4D 2 GTX Backpacking Boots:
Like all footwear, it's all about the fit. It took me about 8 different pairs of boots (including a few similarly styled Salomons) to find the "right" one and these are as close as it gets. These are light, appear reasonably-well made for a lightweight 3 season hiker and have decent reviews throughout the interwebs.
I usually hike in trail runners during the summer, but want something with a little more support, coverage and waterproof-ness for multi-day trips in the presis and beyond.
The yellow isn't going to win you much in the style department, but when the price (and fit) is right, looks aren't everything.
I can't say I expect to see these things lasting for more than a few seasons (unlike my old Asolo Meridians) but they just don't make them like they used to.
