I trained for, and ran, a half marathon in my old pair of KomodoSport Vibrams(the ones with velcro)and not only did I feel great at the end of the race (in 'regular' running shoes my knees would hurt if I ran anything over 3mi)I also decided to run a full marathon wearing Vibrams in March. I still wear my original pair on runs and while there is some noticeable wear on the bottoms, they are in great shape for 250+ miles of running, primarily on asphalt.

I got the KomodoSport LS because I wanted another pair to train/run in, as well as a pair that I could wear to work (in a hospital)that were a bit less noticeable. In fact, I had to point them out to my boss and he told me he "didn't even realize I was wearing Vibrams."

I love these shoes, and I think everyone should try them out,but alas, they aren't for everyone. So,if you don't like them after a few weeks (it takes a little while to break them in/get used to the feeling), return them. The single greatest thing about EMS is the company's return policy. It is the reason I buy all of my outdoor gear and shoes exclusively from EMS. I have convinced 5 friends of the awesomeness of Fivefingers, and they all got theirs from EMS, and all of them had to exchange the pairs they ordered online as they did not fit exactly right, and none of them had any complaints about the exchange process.


I currently own 4 different pairs of Vibram Fivefinger shoes and I use them for everything: walking, hiking, kayaking, running, cross training, casual wear and some climbing. I don't really wear "real" shoes anymore.

I would suggest going into an EMS to get your first pair of Vibram Fivefingers, because while the sizing info on both the EMS and Vibram websites is accurate, each shoe model is a bit different in feel and fit. Don't worry though, if the shoe feels just a little snug at first, they stretch out a bit as you wear them (and if you wear toe socks with them, Injinji makes some good ones, it will speed up the stretching and keep your feet warmer throughout the colder months). I had a pair that was a little too big and I ended up exchanging them for a smaller pair because my foot slid around in the shoe too much. (Sizing Vibrams is akin to sizing climbing shoes in the sense that a little small is better then a little big).

The only complaint I have with Vibrams is the fact that they can get a bit smelly over time, and while they are easily washed in the washing machine,it only helps remove the smell until the next time your foot sweats in them. However, it took my first pair a good 2 months of running in them almost every day in the hot summer, until they developed a noticeable 'stank'. Once I discovered the toe socks for them, my subsequent pairs have not gotten stinky.

Oh, and be prepared to catch random strangers looking at you with a surprised or puzzled look, little kids to be pointing and telling their mom and dad to "look at that guy's shoes," and for lots of people to ask you "so what's the deal with those toe shoe things?" So, if you don't like talking to people,just avoid eye contact, and if you do,these shoes are a great conversation starter.

I hope this info was helpful to anyone debating whether they should take the leap into the exciting world of Vibram Fivefingers,or just stick with safety and security of the old timey 'regular' shoe. My advice, in the words of another shoe company, 'just do it,' take the plunge, and maybe, just maybe, you will become a believer like me, and never want to go back.

I bought these as my new running shoes. I carefully followed Vibram's instructions from their website on starting slowly and building up to longer runs. So I had no real growing pains but a lot of people I know did go through some. If that's you though stick with it! These shoes are worth it!
My speed while sprinting has tripled and my overall runtimes have improved substantially. The shoes are light, but have sturdy enough soles that your feet never feel small imperfections in the road surface. However you will still feel large stones.

This is the shoe for yoga people who do not want to wear shoes on asphalt. I commute from CT to NYC every week and this is my first shoe of choice. It makes you smarter in your stride and body mechanics.

they're great, took some getting used to as far as getting them on and off but the process got easier every time. they are great, i use them for mostly for hiking/trail running and kayaking.

Just an awesome pair of shoes, they are extremely comfortable and have excellent ground feel! I use them for all kinds of exercises and sports, mostly for bouldering, rock climbing, and hiking. They are excellent for hiking! My only gripe about them is that after using them in hot weather, they reek! I've washed them like crazy and they still stink! But out of my 4 other pairs of Vibram FiveFingers, they are by far my favorite! I recommend these to everyone if you want to try them out for your first pair!!

This is the first time I've tried barefoot shoes, so i cant compare them against anything repevant, aside from my set of Nike Frees, but theyre completely different All I can say is that I love the now that I got used to them; what I mean by that, is that now that my feet and certain muscles in my legs have gotten used to "being-barefoot" in a wider array of activities that I would normally wear conventional high platform shoes. I'm hooked.
