Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

Mannnn I LOVED this tent!! Brought it on all of my climbing trips and loved how spacious it was inside, how easy it was to set up / tear down, and how light weight it is.

However, I have the pre-2012 version and it didn't hold up in Bishop, CA. The winds picked up and ended up bending the main pole. Once this happened the structural integrity was gone and each gust seemed to make it even worse. Attached is a photo of the aftermath. It's essentially unusable now. :(

If it wasn't for this failure this would be my go-to 3-season backpacking tent. Now I don't know if I want to give the 2012-remake another chance and am hunting for a replacement.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

I was in the market for a lightweight 2 person freestanding tent. After researching for a few months I narrowed it down to 2 of the "big" name tent companies. I couldn't settle on either because each of them had some minor drawbacks (rainfly was too short, no vents in rainfly, etc).

Until I stumbled into EMS and noticed they redesigned the Velocity 2. It covered all the shortcomings that were wrong with the "big" name tents. The velocity 2 is slightly lighter, rainfly is perfect length and although it isnt shown in the picture, the rainfly has a vent on each door.

Get this tent!!!! Even better get it on Sale like I did!!!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

It seems that whoever designed this tent tried to make it different from others just for the sake of making it different. I wonder how the plastic fittings are going to hold up. I would feel a lot better about it if they just used standard fittings that have been proven to work well instead of inventing new ways of connecting poles and clipping in webbing. hopefully I can get some spare parts to carry just in case.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

I was looking for a lightweight tent to use for solo backpacking with my greyhound. I'm glad I went with the Velocity 2. The tent was just roomy enough, easy to set-up while still keeping an eye on my dog, and durable! I foolishly forgot the footprint for the trip and was concerned about the floor subcumbing to a stray rock, stick, or cactus spine, but it held up beautifully!

This tent is great! Used it multiple times now and love it. Super easy set up with color coding and single main pole hub. Fairly spacious on the inside even with two and the vestibules are great for gear storage. Went through the first major rain storm last weekend and stayed dry as a bone. I strongly recomend this tent for any packer

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

I still haven't used this tent on a backpacking trip, but bought it recently for a trip to the Winds next month. However, I set it up at home, and this thing is pretty slick. It's just as light as advertised. While it may not be quite as light as some of the much more expensive super lightweight tents out there, it it light enough. Plus the other lightweight tents I looked at lacked vestibule space and internal storage. This tent has plenty. Having two doors is a great feature that other comparably light tents lack. And I can't believe how easy it is to set up. A great design. The inside is a little cozy, but will fit two people. I'm 6'0" and my wife is 5'8" and we fit just fine. Plenty of headroom.

Another great EMS tent! I can't wait to get it out in the wilderness.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

Our goal was to minimize weight for extended duration hikes, multiple days in and multiple days to get out. When tired and/or wet, the ability to set up quickly and break down quickly is a blessing. When you get in your tent wet, you bring in a lot of unwanted garbage with you. This tent (once its dry) is easy to clean.
For back packing, the weight is perfect for what you get. If your minimizing this tent is perfect.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

We were looking to cut weight to replace our 2 person tent. Our requirements were two doors and two vestibules and under 4 pounds. Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 vs EMS Velocity 2. While BA was lighter, I couldn't justify the price as the Velocity 2 was on sale, making it the obvious choice. I have used the tent a few times and it was cozy for my husband and me, but quite adequate. The gear loft is a nice bonus. It held up well in a thunderstorm. It collects condensation, but so did everyone else's tent (we live in the Northwest).

              A couple of minor irritations:
1-The tent door does flap back on your face when it's opened----not a problem unless it's full of icy condensation like we experienced in overnight temps below freezing. I solved the problem by adding a small strip of velcro along the zipper and also the peg/loop that holds the rainfly door. This will help keep the rainfly from flapping onto me while I crawl out the small door. (see photos)
2-The loop that holds the rolled rainfly door is very difficult to undo. I tied a loop of skinny round elastic onto the fabric loop to make it easier to hook and unhook.
3-Finally, if you are doing a fast light pitch (rainfly, footprint, poles), BE SURE to practice at home first. You MUST remove the jake's feet from the tent body and clip them onto the footprint. Otherwise, the poles have nothing to attach to and the fly and footprint cannot connect. It would be pretty disappointing to find out the hard way if you reasoned that you could just leave the tent body at home!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports 1025686 EMS Velocity 2 Tent:

This is a great tent overall.
Initially bought the Big Agnes Fly Creek 2. However, after backpacking with it a few times, I ended up returning it due to the somewhat flimsy materials, claustrophobic interior and a disappointingly tiny vestibule area that doesn't cover much more than a pair of boots (and poorly at that in the rain). Given that the Fly Creek 2 is designed to be very light weight - I get it - but just not very livable for me.

The Velocity 2, in comparison, is a much more substantial, livable tent without much of a weight penalty at all. It's got a far superior use of space inside and dual vestibules on the outside. Only areas of concern are the platic 'jakes foot' that, IMHO, may be vulnerable to cracking with repeated use. The single frame-pole setup is great, but could, IMHO, also be vulnerable to getting bent or broken if care is not taken during setup or tear down. These minor things aside, I am really liking the Velocity 2 ALOT. It is proving to be a nice, light, comfortable backpacking tent!
