Comments about DEUTER Aircontact 65+10 Backpack:

This pack has a great design, very comfortable straps and appears to be made from really durable materials. I picked up this pack as well as he Osprey Aether 70 and took them home to try out with my normal gear loaded up. I have to say that this pack seemed a little more sturdy and was more comfortable on the shoulders than the Osprey. On the other hand the Osprey was over 1 lb lighter, and most importantly it just balanced better on my body. After adjusting the straps on the Deuter, there was a little too much weight in the area above my shoulders which I felt would make balancing on rough terrain more difficult.
I am a little over 5'8" with a short torso. A taller person would not have this problem.
It was a tough call, but for me weight and balance took precedence over maximum comfort since I bought this mainly for 1-3 day alpine climbs in the Northwest. If longer hikes were my goal, the comfort factor would probably lead me to the Deuter.

Comments about DEUTER Aircontact 65+10 Backpack:

This pack is extremely comfortable, even when full and loaded with a decent amount of weight. The straps all around are fully adjustable and the strap storage system helps to keep them out of the way. The front zip access to the main compartment in addition to the drawstring top access is a nice feature, although it's a little tricky to find things since it's essentially one large pocket with a smaller pocket underneath. There is a very small pocket in the top cover as well as one hip belt pocket (I thought there would be 2). There is a hidden rain cover at the bottom of the bag which zips out and is a very nice feature to have. I have only used this for travelling and camping so far and not for hiking but I am confident it will be great for overnight hikes lugging lots of gear around. I will update once I've used it more.

Comments about DEUTER Aircontact 65+10 Backpack:

I paid around $280 for this pack at another store but wanted to post the review here since I have purchased many things through EMS. This pack is sturdy, designed for the long haul, tear proof, burly, made for the man of yesteryear. I hiked with this pack in the rain, during intense heat, on humid days and the adjustment hip belt and torso system are amazing. About time someone used their noggin.

Don't hesitate if you are thinking of getting one of these. I only have about 60 miles on mine, but would replace it in a minute if something happened to it.
