Comments about MOTOROLA MotoACTV 8GB Heart Rate Monitor:

So I use to do my runs with an iPod & a heart rate monitor watch, then upload my runs onto mapmyrun, which was awful for trail runs. Then I got a smartphone and used the mapmyrun app, put some music on my phone & still had my heart rate monitor watch, but then my phone bill was horrible cause of the data usage. Then this little device came out & I thought oh this would be perfect, and it is! This is just right for me holds enough music for my runs, is extremely accurate with the gps even on a bike, syncs seamlessly with Garmin foot pod & heart rate strap. Sound quality I find to be good, I use the yurbuds with it, and as soon as I walk back into my house it will sync with the network & upload my data to the MotoActv website, which is really interactive and fun to see your progress and results. Yes initially I had an issue as well with the battery life, but after the software ugrade, I can go a week or more without charging. I will say if you love having a lot of music with you, maybe look into the 16GB version, because the maps take up some of the memory, but if you don't mind routine maintenance, and cleaning out the older map files you'll have no problems with the 8GB. All in all, I am glad I got this, I enjoy my runs a lot more now cause I am not carrying as much stuff with me. I just wish there were some more accessories like silicone covers to protect it like the IPod nano, I thought about using those on the MotoActv, but the buttons along the sides would not function as well then

Comments about MOTOROLA MotoACTV 8GB Heart Rate Monitor:

This watch/gps/music player is perfect for most athletes that are looking for a multifunctional device to augment their exercise regimen.
The battery lasts over a full day (7am to 9pm) and used for a 30 minute run, 15 minute Stair Stepper workout, and listening to music most of the rest of the day while synced to my droid x. Neither device suffered significant battery drain, however this is an accessory that needs to be charged every day or two. Luckily, they included a dual USB wall adaptor so you can charge your phone and watch from the same outlet.
Things that are awesome:
-fitness music, website for reviewing exercise/ performance during each song
-GPS tracking (very accurate)
-construction- it's unbelievably lightweight, comfortable, and robust.
-Phone notifications/ calling
Things that need work:
-battery life
Recommendations for future development:
-Add the option of a "Lifting" workout so that the user can review the songs heard during the workout to optimize the playlist/keep track. (also will help with calorie tracking)
-Add more watch/time display screens. I like the default screen, but don't care/want to see steps taken and calories under the time. Maybe switch those out for the name of the song playing.
-Improve the headphone sound quality- I'm probably going to replace the ones that came with it in favor of the Bose Mobile In Ear 2 headphones.
