Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Hyland Fleece Convertible Mittens:
I wear these mittens while walking around Boston, and they do a good job of keeping my fingers warm in mitten mode. When I need more dexterity (to grab my wallet or phone, for instance), I can peel back the mitten. For convenient smart phone use, you can also expose your thumb. The covers are held open by magnets, which is definitely a step up from the velcro of days gone by. Sometimes it can be a little tough to get to thumb cover back into mitten mode, but it's not a big deal. Unsurprisingly, these mittens aren't waterproof and they are only so warm; you'll need something more technical for really cold/wet/snowy days on the trail.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Hyland Fleece Convertible Mittens:
The previous pair I had 2 years ago were a cross between a heavy duty glove and this fleece one EMS is making. The magnet snaps were actual snaps. And the thumb flaps had snaps - which is something I have not been able to find. These have been a good replacement, but I still miss the warmth of the old ones.

I love these gloves!!!!! I spent days on the internet looking for gloves that would allow me to easily access to my samsung galaxy s3 smart phone. These gloves were exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want bulky gloves, so I expected to compromise with thin gloves that wouldn't keep my hands as warm. However, these gloves are unbelievably WARM! The magnets are such a great add on, I didn't even think of them when searching for a glove that allows you to expose the fingers. Also there's a clip at the base of the gloves that allows you to clip the gloves together, so you don't lose them as easily. I would've gladly paid triple for these gloves; they blow other famous brands out of the water. They're also incredibly good looking, and go great with my north face jacket.
Pros
- Warm
Cons
- Magnets Not Strong
- Sizes too big
- stitching comes undone
Best Uses
- Around Town Gloves
Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Hyland Fleece Convertible Mittens:
I wanted to love these gloves, but after one weekend of wearing them the stitching came undone. I usually wear a size large glove but these are sized much larger than other similar gloves. The magnets are a great idea but they need to be slightly bigger. They are constantly coming undone and the mitten part is big and bulky and gets in the way a lot. I exchanged them at EMS for another pair of gloves. I was kind of bummed out because the store was pretty much out of stock of gloves so I had to settle with a pair Im not thrilled about. I'll probably pick up a pair or the smart wool convertible mittens next year. I love EMS products and I'll continue to back them because I rarely have an issue. These mittens are a great idea but they need a little more work.
Pros
- Convert Thumb Cover

Second purchase of these gloves in the past few years. First pair were a women's pair, and I loved them so much, have found them so perfect, that I had to order a pair for my partner.
Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Hyland Fleece Convertible Mittens:
Most convertible mittens have buttons to hold the mitten part back when you want to use your fingers - but who has the patience to fuss with buttons? With the magnets, you don't have to! Even the thumb has its own flap with its own magnet.
Pros
- Light
- Magnetic Buttons
- True fit
- Warm
Cons
- none
Best Uses
- Running
Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Hyland Fleece Convertible Mittens:
I specifically use the gloves or run outside when the temperature is below the freezing mark. Very light gloves that wick the sweat away. I would recommend these mitten/gloves to anyone needing the option of being able to convert from mitten to fingerless gloves.
Pros
- Comfortable
- Easy to open and close
- Warm
Cons
- none
Best Uses
- driving
- Walking Dogs
- Winter Astronomy
Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Hyland Fleece Convertible Mittens:
I use these primarily while using my telescope in the winter. I needed mittens that folded back so I could have the dexterity I needed to switch eyepieces and manipulate smaller parts. These were perfect in that they use a nice magnetic holder to keep the mitten open. I have used Velcro versions but those catch on everything. Not these! They are soft warm and smooth all around. Nothing to catch anything on. I wear a silk under glove to keep my fingertips warm when the mitten is folded back. My hands have a hard time keeping warm with any sort of gloves so I really needed a mitten. And when you are just sitting under a clear dark cold sky not moving you need all the heat you can get. These have served me well for almost 2 years.
