Comments about HILLSOUND Trail Crampons:
Interesting there are so few reviews, and people continue to praise microspikes. In my view, there is absolutely no comparison. Hillsounds take you where you would never dare with Microspikes.
Pros
- Easy to put on
- Not Likely To Fall Off
- Reasonable weight
Cons
Best Uses
- winter hiking
Comments about HILLSOUND Trail Crampons:
Bought these for winter hiking in the Catskills. Already own Kahtoola Microspikes but had heard good things about the Hillshound Trail Crampons. Like the idea of the velcro strap for added assurance they won't fall off in deep snow. Only used them once so far on light ice condiditions and will be anxious to see how they perform in "real" winter condidtions. They have more crampons on the heel than the Microspikes, which should be helpful on descents. Think there are more conditions they would be appropriate for than Microspikes but still not a real crampon, which is absolutely necessary for some condidtions.

Comments about HILLSOUND Trail Crampons:
Right out of the box, I did a 7 mile hike. When I took off one of the crampons I found that on one, the binding had broken. I emailed 3 times and had to finally call Hillsound. They gave me a bunch of hoops to jump before they would replace the broken crampon. I threw the broken one away and gave the complete one to my brother as a spare. I will continue to use my Glacier Chains, that I have hiked over 100 miles in with no problem.

Comments about HILLSOUND Trail Crampons:
Tried out my Hillsounds on a short hike up a pretty steep mountain. Very pleased with the traction they provided over no traction at all. Easy to put on and take off. Great product! I look forward to using them more in the future.

Comments about HILLSOUND Trail Crampons:
These crampons are perfect. They are very stable and secure. They bite into ice. Walking on a steep up/down grade in the Appalachians on solid ice these felt more secure than walking on concrete in shoes.
Comments about HILLSOUND Trail Crampons:
I tried these out last weekend in the White Mountains. My hiking buddies had regular microspikes, while I was rocking these. The Hillsound trail crampons worked great on even really steep patches of ice and rocks, while my friends had to go off trail to keep their footing. The rigid plate on the bottom makes them much more efficient at planting your feet on the ice. If you hike in the east, forget crampons, these will work for any trail you find.
