Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Ice Down Jacket:
Usually a serious mountaineering down coat needs better down (800+), but for the lower 48, this is truly all the warmth you would ever need. It really is insanely warm for a 650 fill jacket - it almost feels overstuffed. At the sale price, it's a crazy deal - I had to buy. At one and a half pounds it's very lightweight, and packs very small (cantaloupe size). The massive hood is helmet compatible but the adjustments are perfectly designed to snug around your face completely like a sleeping bag. With the no-snag belay zipper this is a terrific belay jacket for very cold, dry conditions. The cuff tabs won't ruin fleece liner gloves and the hem cinches with one-handed pulls. The blue color is sweet, too - goes with anything and looks good downtown. Awesome coat - well done EMS!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Ice Down Jacket:
I'm a small woman (sweater size 6-8), but chose the Men's Small because I prefer more pockets, and a looser fit, for layering. You can snug it up around the head and waist. It hasn't been cold enough to really test this out yet, but I expect it to perform.
The shell material is the only concern. To make it packable (not a feature I will get much use for), they chose a very thin ripstop. I'm concerned about rips/pulls. We'll see.
I have avoided down because it just never seems the same after its washed, even if you follow instructions carefully. But I am tired of my heavy jacket. This is super comfortable.
Pros
- Toasty
- Windblocker
Cons
- Permanent Hood

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Ice Down Jacket:
I have only had this jacket for a few weeks. I was looking for one that I could use to walk the dog in the windy and cold months in Chicago. After returning two other jackets, I have been happy with this one so far. Very warm in temps in the 20s and teens with wind. The hood is adjustable, keeps my face warm, and it does not obstruct my peripheral vision. There is also no velcro, which is great because other jackets snagged scarves and sweaters. I'd love to be able to use it on the slopes at some point...not sure how well it will breathe, but I anticipate being plenty warm on the chair lifts.
Pros
- Good Fit Allowing Layerin
- Great Hood Design
Cons
- No Insulated Zipper Tube
Best Uses
Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Ice Down Jacket:
Excellent lightweight jacket. I really liked the full coverage hood design and the great range of adjustment. I live in an Alaskan high wind area and need a good hood.
The only improvement I would like to see is an insulated zipper baffle behind the zipper. When skiing into the wind there is a cold spot through the zipper.
This jacket is an excellent value for the money. It puts NF into the poser category and is half the price.
Pros
- Down filled
- Functional Drawstrings

- price
- Water Resistant

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Ice Down Jacket:
I bought this product to be of good function in the winter months. I chose this because of its down filling, breathability, water resistance, and packability. A critical must in purchasing this jacket was that it be comfortable while driving which it is. Great jacket and the price made it a fantastic buy.
Pros
- Amazing warmth
- Awesome hood
- Good Looking
Cons

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Ice Down Jacket:
This is without a doubt the best jacket I've ever owned. As others have mentioned, this seems to be stuffed more than the 650 fill that it's rated at. It's certainly warmer than other 650 fill jackets I've tried. Not only this, but the hood is awesome. It covers just enough of head/face and has a drawstring to help tighten. Lastly, it's great looking, nice sleek/conservative style. I really can't say enough good things about this jacket.
