I have used this for over 5 years, averaging 2-3, 3 night trips a year filtering water for 2-4 people. That being said, it has seen what I would call a less than average amount of use. Recently the handle broke on the first day of a 3 day trip. When speaking with katahdyn, they said there is only a 1 year warranty, which is poor given most people will only use this a limited number of times in a year. If you are looking for a reliable filter that you plan on using more than 8+ times a year, this filter would not be worth the money. For occasional users like myself it has been worth the money.

It filters water right away! No carrying water while waiting for Chemicals to work. No funky taste, The Steripen I have is eats batteries that are heavy and it is unreliable. The Hiker Pro weighs less than the Liter you are filtering. I can drink the clear great tasting water right away and it feels safe to enjoy the water. The only down side is the filter does not clean well. When it clogs, it tends to no longer produce water. It will filter A LOT of water before it fails. I have not counted the liters it will filter, but I LOVE mine. I have seen one easily handle a party of 10 on a 5 day backpacking trip and then some.
