- Outer Layer Or Midlayer
Comments about SMARTWOOL Men's PhD HyFi Full-Zip Jacket:
I use this as an outer layer when the temps are on the cool side, say around 45-50 degrees F. The jacket is not bulky at all. Usually have a Smartwool microweight crew underneath or a plain t shirt. Walking today in 50's , I was very warm. I had to unzip it a little bit to cool off. I plan on using this as my midlayer for when it gets really cold here in NYC. Haven't been in the rain with it yet, so I am not sure about it's water resistance. I like the thumbholes for added warmth for my hands if needed. The sleeves are a touch long but works well whether you use the thumbholes or not. This piece looks very good. I have gotten compliments on it. I have it in Black, size large. I am 6 feet tall, 220 pounds.
The only possible negative is the nylon mesh used for the pockets. The material inside is not solid wool or nylon. From the inside of the jacket, you can see what you stored in those pockets. I can see my keys leaving a nice little hole in those areas one day.
Pros
- Warm Light weight
Cons
- A bit pricey
Best Uses
- Layering Or Stand Alone

super fleece! this is very comfortable and warm. It is very thin so it works great for layering. Will definatly be buying some more smartwool products.
