The sleeve for the computer tablet is 8.5 x 8 inches. My standard I-Pad measures 9.5 x 7.5. It won't fit.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Drifter Daypack:

I just took this backpack on a 2.5 week trip to Costa Rica and I was so glad I got it (my husband even asked me to order him one!). It carries everything I need on short hikes, trips to the beach, and also works as an overnight bag. My only real complaint with this bag, and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is because the side pockets don't hold larger water bottles well. Anything over 1 liter fell out if I leaned forward to fix my shoe, etc. 1 liter bottles and smaller were fine, but I wish it had either deeper pockets or a strap to secure larger items. Also, I originally got the purple color and didn't like how it looked, got the black and find it much sleeker looking.

      hard backing is awkward, uncomfortable

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Drifter Daypack:

I use this to walk to campus daily. It has good options for storage. The hard (plastic) backing is a huge drawback for me- I wish it had some flex, was shorter and/or had a removable option. It does not stand on its own and tips over when placed on the floor. It also digs into my back due to its inability to fit to the contour of my body. Our other EMS backpacks have a softer, flexible back and are much more comfortable when using- and they stay upright when placed on the ground.

Also not sure what the first guy is talking about, as my iPad as well as my 13" MacBook Pro fit in the compartment. The MacBook was pretty tight, but fit non-the-less.

Unlike the other reviewer, I don't use this just to carry an ipad. Therefore this pack fits everything in it that I need whether I'm cycling or taking a day hike.

I'm using this backpack for light day hikes and for my daily commute to work, either by road bike or Jeep. This bag is replacing a North Face bag that was full of zippers, straps, and excessive compartments, and weighed 2x as much.EMS has never let me down! :)
