Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Transcend Daypack:

This is generally a well-made pack, but a few things have made me decide to exchange it for another. (1) The internally-divided compartment is surprisingly restrictive: my sack lunch won't easily slide to the bottom of the pack, because the floor of the pack is too narrow. Someone carrying mostly paperwork would not have a problem, but I commonly carry things like rock samples, medium-sized electrical equipment, etc. (2) Less importantly, two of the zippers conflict slightly: the laptop compartment only has one zipper, which is closed when the zipper pull is at the top of the pack. The main compartment zipper sometimes catches on this, particularly when closing the main compartment. The diagonal position of the main zipper is also sort of irritating, although I can't really identify a problem with it. (3) I would prefer a 1.5-in waist strap for a pack with this capacity (this pack has 1-in).
