Cons

    Best Uses

Comments about MAMMUT Block Chalk, 2 oz.:

Not all chalk is created equal! Many chalks are ground too finely, or contain skin-drying agents. This chalk is simple and great--no creepy, skin-cracking chemicals. And it's a block, so you can break it up as you please.

Comments about MAMMUT Block Chalk, 2 oz.:

I've used other chalk brands in block form:

    Bison Chalk
    Metolius Superchalk
    Black Diamond White Gold

But this one is really the best among all of them, in my opinion. It's been a while since I last used it, but I recall Bison forming a paste with a long climbing session that was not fun. Metolius' is too fine in texture, resembling babypowder...and I find it can cause you to slip off the rocks (especially indoor holds) if your layer is just a little too thick. Black Diamond's is the next best to Mammut's in that the friction is also quite high and the consistency is not ultra-fine. White Gold used to be my go-to chalk, but now I think I'll be switching to Mammut.

The chalk is really quite tacky, as tacky as chalk can be. After applying, you can feel the friction just by rubbing your fingers together. The chalk also lasts a long time on your hands, reducing the need for reapplication, which is something positive to get used to. Good stuff! People say you can't tell the difference in chalk brands, but to me, there really is, and it can make a drastic difference in your climbing performance. Everyone has a favorite, and thankfully, it's cheap enough to buy a block and try. Climb on!
