the hook's reach length can be adjusted based on how you girth hitch it to your harness. I loop the sling to both my leg connection and hip connection for short length. I am 5'8'' and it is great for second stepping, while top stepping is a little restraining. But this length issue may be the product of several factors: my shoes, the rock angle, the aider step heights. I find the BD fifi to be a go to product, but some tweaking will be necessary.
