Hard to Believe

Comments about SAWYER Mini Water Filter:

I used a Sawyer Squeeze the entire 43 days of my 800-mile Arizona Trail thru-hike.  Water from trickling irrigation pipes to green puddles all came out crystal clear. Since that first great experience, I've taken the squeeze on all my outings.  I also show it off in my Red Cross Wilderness First Aid classes that I present - the fast, easy flow really impresses folks. :-)   There are two mods that have made the product a bit easier for me. 1.  The dirty water bag doesn't fill when submerged in standing water, so I scoop with a zip-loc and fill the bag from it.  Keeps the bag a bit cleaner too. 2. I glued an extra lid for my squeezable water bottle to the output cap of the filter and drilled a hole through both.  To fill, I just screw the filter onto my water bottle and squeeze - it keeps out all dirty drops.  Plus, when the bottle is full I just squeeze it a bit to backflush the filter clean for next use. Thanks for a great innovation!

are you looking for a good water filter for backpacking? look no further. I've used this on dozens of trips from rivers to streams to standing puddle water. red water from wells, to brown water from a muddy puddle. its extremely light small and versatile, a backpackers best friend.

Bag problems

Comments about SAWYER Mini Water Filter:

Love this filter!  But was dismayed last week hiking in the Grand Canyon that my 32 ounce bag had 2 very small holes.  I had not used it much prior and tested and backwashed the kit at home before departure.  I don't think I squeezed the bag too hard last use but don't remember.  I was able to repair and use the bag by the old friend of duct tape. Still, the easy use and light weight out performs other filters which require tubes and tiresome pumping. Being tired and lazy I learned that careful balance of the kit over my water bottles would allow a slow drip fill while I was preparing camp and enjoying the scenery. Some small improvements to the bags would allow easier filling.  A small hole for string or a clip would make it easy to hang the kit off a backpack or low bush for the drip fill method. You really have to pay attention to not lose the various lids for everything.  Especially at night or in windy conditions.

So easy to use!
