We've gone thru several pair of these in the last 10yrs.
They always bust out the crotch gusset first.
My wifes' pairs have "runs" across the butt like pantyhose might. Both are over 5yrs old atm.
These are by far the most comfortable form of thermals ever. I've used common cotton johns, polypropelene, capilene and silks.
I work construction, backpack, kayak, do chores outside year round and wear these whenever the temp is 40 or less.
They move moisture well and are still somewhat warm when wet. Good news is they almost never smell bad. It's rather amazing.
Great product overall.

I'm a bike commuter and farmer in rural Alberta (Canada). Working up a sweat in the winter is a common occurrence for me. Cotton does little to insulate when dry and nothing when wet. Wet or dry polyester and other synthetics are warm, but quickly start to stink. Not acceptable when one arrives at the office. Wool has the benefits of the synthetics without the odour. I have regularly commuted in a wool base-layer and then kept it on for a day at the office.

A downside of wool is that it doesn't wear as well. After about a twelve month of commuting in similar tights, the knees and crotch start to develop holes. Expect this in your first pair. I keep tights that have worn through and use the fabric as reinforcement for new tights. It doubles their life-span.

These tights by Smartwool perform as advertised. They fit true to size, are warm, and aren't itchy to this wearer's skin.

Feels great against skin. Not too hot, but def not cold. Material wicks moisture well, feels so good I don't want to take them off. Perfect for winter, fall and spring.

I have been searching for a pair of decent long underwear ever since I wore in my old EMS long johns on a NOLS Semester a bit too hard (still able to wear them though) and EMS discontinued this last line for the **** they call techwick. Smartwool is better than I could have hoped. It is comfortable and stays dry even when I sweat (and sweat I do). My only complaint is the sizing. I roll the sleeves up in the car on the way to destination and the cuffs stretch. Also, would it kill them to put thumb holes on the garment. That is my favorite property of my old EMS long Johns.

After I finished two straight days on the mountain and a morning of snowshoeing back to the car, I was still able wear them home on an eight hour car ride and be perfectly comfortable! How can you complain about that. Worth the money. Worth the hype. Smartwool has my business!

Great bottoms, very warm and comfortable, crotch wears out rather quickly, but I do wear them 40 hours a week. Still the only long johns I buy, worth the money, hope the price comes down a bit since I go through 5 pairs a season. If just for rec. use, the best you can get!

I use a pair of these bottoms nearly every day when I walk my dogs. They don't "ride up", they keep me warm without being restrictive, and they feel much better than cotton or human made materials. I usually buy a pair each year - to add to my collection - not to replace the ones I have. I also use them while working in the snow and have stayed warm throughout my outdoor activities. I also wear them under my business suits. I usually wash them after a single use and have not noticed any shrinkage or wear.

I am extremely satisified with this product.

Great for working outdoors, but after only a few months the crotch wore out. In guess I just need to buy a few pairs, just really expensive.

I plow snow in the winter times and needed something to keep my legs warm. This is my second pair of SmartWool Bottoms. The first pair I owned lasted me about 2 years of heavy wear. The only draw back to wearing them on a regular basis is that they wear out in the crotch somewhat to soon. The rest of the bottoms were fine but the crotch wore out and got holes in it. If you are looking for a good pair of bottoms that is reasonably priced, definitely take a look at these.

These are the best wool long underwear I have come across. Better than a synthetic, washes great. Just wish they would go on sale.
