Comments about ASOLO Men's TPS 520 GV Backpacking Boots, Wide:

I bought these to replace a pair of Montrails that I've had for 10 years. The only trail that I've been able to do so far with these was Algonquin in the Adirondacks and they were incredible! I thought with the heavy duty construction that it would take a lot more time to break in but I did the hike in a snow storm (slipping around) and I couldn't ask for a more comfortable boot. The boot also gave me a lot more confidence stepping on snow covered ground where the underlying trail was quite rocky (I did use micro spikes, of course). I actually returned the first pair (which I ordered online) because my foot is like a brick and my normal size felt narrow even with the wide fit. I took it back to the EMS store and the foot specialist recommended that I go 1 size larger to accommodate my especially wide foot in the top box area. My measured foot size is 8.5 EE so I usually go with 9EE but I went with size 10 for this boot per the recommendation. I was a little skeptical, thinking that my foot would move around causing blisters but after the hike to Algonquin, I am sold! I am also somewhat flat-footed so I added a superfeet insert and the boot is just perfect! I intend on using these for my hike to Kilimanjaro and Rainier next year.

Comments about ASOLO Men's TPS 520 GV Backpacking Boots, Wide:

I like this boot, but the soles delaminated on one pair after moderate use. A lace hook broke on another pair; it was not made of steel, like most lace hooks, but of white metal, a weak alloy used to cast inexpensive parts. I wonder whether a foreign supplier has been cheating Asolo.

Comments about ASOLO Men's TPS 520 GV Backpacking Boots, Wide:

Very comfortable, little break-in needed. Excellent traction on wet rock. A very warm boot, best in cold conditions. Forefoot is stiff, but ankle is a little too flexible for me. I can still roll an ankle on uneven surfaces. Needs a rubber toe cap to reduce scuffing. Overall a very good boot, better than my old Montrails. Expensive but worth it.

Comments about ASOLO Men's TPS 520 GV Backpacking Boots, Wide:

I was surprised at the lack of break-in required for a high, full-leather boot. I took these on a 35-mile backpack in the Smokies after only a couple of 1-2 mile walks in the neighborhood -- no blisters, hot spots, etc. I took a local store's advice and bought wide rather than 1/2 size longer based on my experience with other Asolo's. The rubber toe cap does need to be larger to better protect the toe from scuffing.

Comments about ASOLO Men's TPS 520 GV Backpacking Boots, Wide:

This is my second pair of these boots. The first pair lasted me8 years. And I abused the hell out of them. Many 4000 footers and 1000's of miles. I treated these boots like a red-headed step child and they never failed me. I am an 11 wide and went with an 11.5 to allow for wool socks. fit is just right. They do take a bit to break in but not too bad. If these perform like the last pair they will be worth every penny. Dont hesitate just do it.

Comments about ASOLO Men's TPS 520 GV Backpacking Boots, Wide:

I had Keen day hikers and needed to step up into a sturdier boot. I hike in quite a few Boston and NH based meetup hiking groups. These seem to be the most popular of the high quality boots. No one had anything bad to see about them. Everyone said you'll love them. And after a month, and five hikes (plus some early treadmill time!), I do.

Comments about ASOLO Men's TPS 520 GV Backpacking Boots, Wide:

Purchased for backpacking, my husband has wide feet and can never seem to find a shoe that feels good. He loves these. Climbed Mt. Kinsman (over 4,000 ft) with the boots practically right out of the box. He said they were very comfortable, climbing up and down the trail. Expensive, but worth every penny!

From the first time wearing these boots I knew this was a good decision. Yes they were on the high end as respects cost but worth every dollar. The decision to buy theses boots was strongly influenced by other reviews and now I too am drinking the Kool-Aid! The EMS staff was great with their help. They recommended going up 1/2 size - I tried on my normal size first and ultimately took their advise. Totally satisfied customer.
