Comments about MERRELL Men's Perimeter GTX Backpacking Boots:
Needed a new pair of boots to help work on ATC's Konnarock Volunteer trail crew. With next to no break-in they were very comfy. They held up to several day's abusive trail construction work, keeping my feet safe, dry, and comfortable. I put my last pair of Merrels through several years' abuse, and look forward to doing the same with these.

Comments about MERRELL Men's Perimeter GTX Backpacking Boots:
I used these boots on a 22 day backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada's this summer and they worked great! We got dumped on by rain and my feet were almost completely dry just a little moisture but considering I was in poring rain for over an hour they held up well. I had only broken them in on a 3 day trip in the White Mountains before my 22 day trip and I didn't get a single blister the whole time. The only thing that could be a con is that they are not very breathable but that isn't to be expected with full grain leather boots. Also, two of the front lugs on the left boot are now missing but I was in pretty rough terrain the whole time.

Comments about MERRELL Men's Perimeter GTX Backpacking Boots:
Bought these boots in June after trying on several in the store, seeing glowing reviews on here, and having the sales associate agree they are a solid boot. Well they were great and comfortable through the break in (about 50ish miles). After that these boots became extremely uncomfortable, leading to bursitis in my heel. My ambitions of finishing the 48 4k footers in the whites were dashed and now I'm hoping I'll heal in time for ski season. Thankfully EMS seems to be a great company and will take these in return so I can get my money back and go back to the boots I've always trusted. Aside from that I'd say these boots to offer pretty nice support, they are so-so on the slippery stuff. The tread wears very fast. The toe is starting to delaminate. And the peat of the east seems to eat away at these boots. If you enjoy hiking rocky stuff the leather is kind of thin and I'm not sure mine could even handle a rocky katahdin ascent after only 6 summits. Just hopeful my review can help someone in the future that's a similar hiker to me to skip these boots and look for something a bit more rugged.

Comments about MERRELL Men's Perimeter GTX Backpacking Boots:
Let me just say i have had these boots for going on 4 weeks now.. and i have logged maybe only 20+ miles on them.. i was told they would have anywhere between a 40 and 80 mile break-in...
they have awesome traction. Very sturdy boot. Waterproofing is great so far. torsional stability is great! however i am getting big blisters in my achilles area.....and hotspots under the big toes... when i tried them on in the store .. they fit great. no heel travel or anything.. but they must be moving around a bit.. i hope after 50 miles or so they stop doing that.

Comments about MERRELL Men's Perimeter GTX Backpacking Boots:
Used for hiking in the Rocky Mountains and on the West Coast Trail. This is my third pair. It is a shame Merrell has discontinued the product. After two seasons of use I bought a new pair and used the old pair every day for work untill the lininigs gave out.

Comments about MERRELL Men's Perimeter GTX Backpacking Boots:
I've had these boots for three years now and they haven't worn down. Good traction, and plenty of ankle support. I've used them on several trails, and even wore them to a few construction jobs when my old boots wore out. I'd recommend these sturdy boots to anyone looking for a pair of hiking boots. They might be pricey, but they'll be well worth it when you're out there.

Comments about MERRELL Men's Perimeter GTX Backpacking Boots:
Plan to use these boots for weekend backpacking and fly fishing trips where travel by car and light airplane may be required. The boots are well balanced, not to light, not too heavy. I like the ankle support and "rocker" feel the foot bed provides and the rounded heel. Also, the tongue and lacing are similar to my wading boots allowing for quick on/off.
