Comments about MERRELL Women's Siren Mid WP Leather Hiking Boots, Brown:

Purchased these online (5/13) after trying them on in-store. These were okay for very light hiking, but I noticed almost right away that they weren't very comfortable for durations longer than an hour. That's as good as sneakers would do, in my opinion. Even after "breaking in" with several of these lighter hikes, they never felt very comfortable for my feet. They pinched a little on every descent, even though I ordered up a half-size, which on level ground felt plenty big for my feet.

I just returned from a three-day hike in the Swiss Alps, with several blisters and completely soaked socks. The hike took us through a few snowfields, and I lost confidence in my boots very quickly, even though the snow was of packing quality and could be ascended safely. By the time I was back down, my boots were completely soaked through. I set them out to dry for the remaining few hours of daylight, and all through the night (which was quite dry), and the soles of these boots were still completely soaked through when I laced them up the next morning. Add this to the discomfort of a steep descent with pinching boots, and you have a very unhappy customer. I don't feel like these boots are up for any type of job that running shoes couldn't do, and I can't fully describe the discomfort and fear that these boots have caused on only semi-technical trails. They are wholly unreliable, and I wish that I could have invested the money I spent on these into a much better boot.

Comments about MERRELL Women's Siren Mid WP Leather Hiking Boots, Brown:

I've had these for about two years and after reading the last review, I wanted to add my own input. I've had very few issues with these boots hiking throughout the Northeast- mostly day hikes and several multiday trips. While I have noticed one seam coming undone recently (note, this is two years after purchasing them), they still seem to be totally waterproof (I've stepped in more than my share of puddles and wet snow). I've never had any issue with traction and have worn these in a number of conditions, wet and dry.

The main drawback is that they are not the most comfortable boot for longer hikes - after 15-20 mile days I definitely feel more fatigue than with other boots and I've had friends with the same complaints when it comes to Merrell. I wouldn't recommend these if you were planning an extended trip, but for 1-3 days and the lighter hiker they're great.
