After spending hours and hours reading reviews and descriptions about the zillion different types of SmartWool socks, I settled on these. They are extremely warm and comfortable. They are thick enough to provide some extra comfort after you take your boots off, and want to walk around. They are the best sock ever, and I will always buy the mountaineering sock, over any other kind of SmartWool sock, when warmth and comfort are an issue.

Got these based on good reviews here, wasn't disappointed. I've had other Smartwool socks that I've liked a lot (and some older ones that were only ok), and these are in the former camp.
I've used them several times for ice climbing, and they are more comfortable and warmer than the 2 pair (liner and ski socks) system I had used prior.
My feet are size 9, and I got the M (7-9) and they fit well, L would have been WAY too big on me. If in doubt, size down a size, they are socks, they will stretch if need be.
These are fairly thick and bulky, so be sure there is room in whatever footwear you intend to use them with.

These are the perfect winter socks. I own probably 25 pairs of Smartwool socks, and finally shelled out the extra dough for these before a big trip to Colorado. They did NOT disappoint. Feet were warm and comfortable, even well below zero. Wife also loves to wear them around the house - if I can't find them, it's a sure bet that they're on her feet. They've even replaced slippers for her and are just about all she'll wear; looks like I'll have to pick up another couple pairs.

I use these socks in cool to cold weather everyday and while hiking and backpacking. There are no sore spots from bad fit and construction. Worth the cost. I only wish they made them in boot length! Remember they take up room in your footwear so size properly!

Great winter hiking and all round backpacking sock. I regularly use these for winter hikes in the Whites and used them exclusively during a 10 day backpacking trip around Mont Blanc.

I wear these all the time in the winter. Daily walks, short or long hikes, and errands.
Only problem I've had were on the pairs I purchased last season, which have strated fraying on the upper parts, which is strange.
Other than that they are great socks.

I have Sorel insulated boots. My feet were warmer in these socks than in SmartWool brand socks or other wicking socks I have. I tried wearing sock liners with them, but they just took away from the warmth of these socks.
