Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
I purchased these boots for everyday fall/winter use and for moderate length backpacking with a thirty -forty pound load. There's no break in period for these boots. They are so comfortable! They are well proportioned, waterproof, and I have certainly not had any issues with the tongue.I tried every boot I could (about twenty-twenty five different boots so I could make a really informed decision and I think these are wonderful boots
Frankly, there's not one negative thing I can say about these boots. I've had them for about six months and have used them every day of that time period. I absolutely love them!
It really pains me that this exceptional boot has only one other posted review on this site, which is terribly negative and describes the boot as "Chunky Monkey". If you need a boot for serious backpacking carrying significant weight on your back, the boot is not going to be like a light hiking or casual shoe or ballet shoes- it's going to be a substantial boot.I think maybe this reviewer doesn't have a lot of experience and or knowledge about hiking boots. I can't imagine a serious backpacker calling these boot "Chunky Monkey" and give them a one star review.
I write reviews for perhaps 5% of the gear I buy, but when I saw the only other review for this product gave it one star, I just had to write about my experiences with this boot and it is exceptional. But as I said, it is a boot built for difficult terrain and carrying heavy loads. I would not advise purchasing it as a casual boot. I have had absolutely no problems with the tongues in my pair. That's why i just couldn't let this boot be represented with one very negative review. After reading that review, I just couldn't let this fantastic. Also, if you want to get a more balanced review of this boot I'd advise visiting other online stores who carry this boot and have many more reviews and see what they have to say.

Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
I purchased these boots for hiking and gardening. The fit was a bit loose and the boot was a bit heavy but did give me the support I needed.

Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
Bought a pair in 2005. They have had extensive use. Comfortable and durable. They do take a while to break in. But had to replace them with the same boot. Only wish they were made in the USA.

Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
Bought them a few weeks ago and used them 3-4 times for day hikes. However, when I tried them on a snowy day I realized that they were not as water-proof as claimed: water was coming through the seam. I went to the EMS store, where everybody confirmed that there was something wrong with the boots, immediately gave me a refund and ordered a different pair of boots. (Thanks to EMS for the great customer service!)

Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
This boot is not only for backpackers, but for day hikers going over rough uneven terrain as in Harriman State Park in New York.
Excellent sturdiness and support are essential when hiking 6-8 miles. The boot feels good and not too heavy.
The boot wears well and cleans off well. Good waterproofing when on wet ground or crossing streams.

Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
I walk for exercise all year round wind, sun ,rain, snow - I do yard work. I hike in the forrest when I can. The boot is warm and dry and has great arch and ankle support. I wore my last pair out after ~ 10+ years.

Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
I really like these boots. Overall great fit. Only real issue involves the break-in period. I've had these oiled twice and can only do short hikes (4-6 miles), slowly building up to longer trips at this point. However, I feel that it has been worth my time softening them up. I look forward to when these are ready for 15+ miles days. :)

Comments about VASQUE Women's Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boots:
I looked forward to trying these boots, but found they were rather wide for the regular width. The tongue was really thick, which was not comfortable in any configuration. I typically buy boots and can wear them that day no problem. However, I tried these boots indoors at home and couldn't/wouldn't do it due to the extreme discomfort of the tongue. I returned them.
