Comments about FIVE TEN Men's Guide Tennie Hiking Shoes:
5.10 Tennie: great shoe. Everybody knows that. I was hoping to use this shoe as an all around shoe to go on hikes when not climbing and to also use as my approach shoe. As an approach shoe, this thing is great but as far as hiking I feel that it lacks the support needed to be comfortable for even short hikes with a mid sized pack.
I'd say the Tennie leans more towards a rock shoe than it does a hybrid, but if you need one shoe that you can walk to the crag, scramble up to the first pitch and then pop on when going up easy routes on a multipitch - you can't beat it.
I also recently had knee surgery and am looking for more support than, say, the normal guy.

Comments about FIVE TEN Men's Guide Tennie Hiking Shoes:
I got these as a substitute for the Merrell barefoot trailglove I've been using for hiking, which I love. I hiked the Grand Canyon in them and they were awesome. I recently fractured my foot in a fall and needed a little more protection for day hikes but wanted something close to minimalist shoes with enough traction for light climbing.
I did some research and all pointed to these 5-10 Guides. Im glad to say they are more rugged then the reviews say. I use them for general 3 to 7 mile day hiking and light climbing several times a week and they are very well constructed and have terrific grip.

Comments about FIVE TEN Men's Guide Tennie Hiking Shoes:
Second pair of these. Love them both, great traction on the rock or the trail. Very comfortable, loved putting these back on after full a day in my rock shoes. I learned to size these a half size down, because they stretch quite a bit the first time they get wet. I normally wear a size 12 in street shoes, and most 5.10 shoes. I wear an 11.5 in these for a good balance of performance and comfort.

Comments about FIVE TEN Men's Guide Tennie Hiking Shoes:
Stiff out of the box, these shoes break in relatively quickly and ultimately end up as cofortable as bedroom slippers. The rubber is exactly what you would expect from Five Ten...superb. I can not recomend these shoes strongly enough, provided they fit your feet well. I climb in Five Ten Galileos size 10 and I got these (twice so far) in the same size for a performance fit, but they are still very comfortable.

Comments about FIVE TEN Men's Guide Tennie Hiking Shoes:
I am a tall female with women's size 11 feet! There aren't many shoes in women's 4 me. When I say true to width, remember this. Guys with "beefy" feet might need wider shoes. They were snug but not tight; comfortable right out of the box. The traction is like a bunch of suction cups! Also the toe protection is great. I hiked the AT & stubbed my toe a couple times. I never felt it! The design of the shoe keeps your foot from sliding forward & smashing into the toe, & the toe rubber evenly distributes the impact. After a rainy/muddy weekend, they scrubbed clean with plain water & looked like new! I will buy another pair for when this one wears out because I'm going to wear them everywhere.

Comments about FIVE TEN Men's Guide Tennie Hiking Shoes:
In the last 10 years I have gone through 4 or 5 pairs of these. That's ok since I wear them from April through November for guiding. In Red Rocks Nevada I climb long multi-pitch routes 5.7 and under without ever putting my climbing shoes on. It is great to be comfortable on a 11 pitch route! They climb slabs (like Whitehorse Ledge) equally well. I do own a pair of more supportive trail shoes for high mileage days (Presidential Traverse) since the softness of this shoe will lead to sore feet if you putting in a 15+ mile day... but for moderate technical climbing there is not a better shoe out there!
