I found these socks at a discount store (past season merchandise)and tried them...never would have paid what I considered a high price for an untested, unknown sock. I loved them, especially the fact they weren't too bulky for my dressier shoes. Only complaint is that they do wear out and I have gotten a couple of holes in them, but considering they are used so often it's understandable. I do wish they went on sale; usually are excluded in store sales. Would like more options for conservative, professional attire.

I started out with 3 pair of Smartwool cable socks just to try them. Well, they're absolutely wonderful! No more cold clammy feet with cotton socks in cold weather. I wish Smartwool cables were more readily available from EMS after the holidays...winter lasts 5 months where I'm from!
Online customer service helped me locate a store out of state who still had some Smartwools, so I'm all set, and have happy feet.

I have been buying these as my everyday sock here in Colorado where temperatures can start out at 30 degrees and quickly head to 70. The classic design, sock height, wicking qualities and slim, not bulky design work well in most of my shoes. I buy numerous pairs and they take forever to wear out. I know my originals lasted 2 years or more with lots of use! I have a muscular ankle and calf and like the fact that they are not binding like so many socks are on me. Top is not super tight.

I have other smartwool socks - low mid-cushion styles that I wear to the gym and for walking. Those are very comfortable. But these cable socks are not as comfortable - toes and heels bunch up unless I take extra care putting them on. Plus they pick up lint very easily - I wore them with my fuzzy slippers after work and they were ruined by the fuzz - none of my other socks do this. Not worth the high price.

Even though the percentage wool content is good, they are thinner than I expected. So, not so good for when it's really cold, but okay for just chilly weather. Because they are thinner, they work well for more casual dressier type shoes where bulky socks won't work.
