I bought this for some mountaineering trips I will be going on but it has come in handy as a backup harness for local climbing trips. (something for my friends to wear) You do not want to hang around in this harness for any length of time but for short toprope routes it works fine.

This replaces a BOD harness I have owned for many years. Comfortable, leightweight, highly functionasl, this makes an excellent all around harness.
I have used it for day climbs, rock gym , ice climbing, and alpine mountaineergin and it has always peformed well being among other thngs, easy to put on and take off over bulky clothing.

I bought this harness for ice climbing and mountaineering. I used it ice climbing for two days and returned it because:
1. The leg straps always seem to align with the most sensitive parts of the male anatomy when lowering. I'd hate to take a big fall on this harness.
2. The clip-on leg straps are very convenient when dressed in winter clothes and crampons, but doubling back the belt strap is very difficult without removing your gloves.
3. The design of the front tie-in straps allows the rope to slide left or right much more than my other (Petzl) harness. If a foot slipped while being lowered this seemed to increase the body twist and it was much harder to recover gracefully (I cramponed a big hole in my pants his way).

A great no frills harness. Just be aware that some rock gyms will not let you climb with them. There is a worry that it can slowly undo the gate on a locking biner. So if you want to climb indoors, get a harness with a belay loop, or check with your gym first.

Merchant response: This harness really is better suited for glacier style mountaineering and routes where you do not intend to hang on the rope for any extended amount of time. For ultra-light mountaineering it is a way of shaving a few ounces, but at the price of some comfort.
