Comments about BLACK DIAMOND Transfer 7 Shovel:
i bought this shovel for my dad to keep in his car incase he ever get stuck. i would say this shovel is alittle big to pack for a winter mountaineering trip. For that i recommend the transfer 3 shovel which is alittle smaller but packs alot easier. i bought the transfer 3 for winter climbing but also to keep in my car for an emergency dig out. But both designs are good and strong for any conditions

Heavy but tough, i used it to dig out my car at a ski resort and prep camping sites. It also doesn't collapse to a very small size. I can't ever see this breaking.

Comments about BLACK DIAMOND Transfer 7 Shovel:
I got this shovel primarily for the car. Traveling to our weekend house sometimes means a bit of digging out to get into the driveway & to the house. Recently we went up & the snow from the plow was highly compressed, with a layer of about 4 inches of fresh powder on top. The shovel did a great job cutting thru everything and digging out.
For larger jobs, it can be tiring due to the short handle size. However, it is stronger than a lot of typical snow shovels you may have at home & a good compliment to them, especially getting thru the plow-generated compacted snow.
