Wanted a protector for my Raven Pro BD Ice Axe. This worked great on my Rainer trip and also aided in attaching the Axe to the built in Ice Axe loops on my pack. Quick and easy to use and for Rainer it was very light, so I took it with me to base camp.

Thought this was supposed to be a universal fit. I have an older set of black diamond prophet straight shaft ice axes that I want to use for mountaineering. This fits well enough not to fall off, but does not full protect. It would fit a regular mountaineering axe.

Well, as with most my axes, I would always end up poking something with them. Rather it be my packs or myself, those sharp points always found a way to snag something. The BD pick/adze protectors are a great way to keep those sharp points covered during storage or transport. Just make sure that your axe is dry before storing, as the plastic will hold moisture and rust will form all over your adze and pick. Just air-dry everything really well beforehand and you're good to go. Overall, they're easy to use and do their intended job well. They look quite durable and I can see them lasting many years of use.
