Works ok if you take it out of the bag and bang it on you hand, but in the bag the sock clogs and you get no chalk on hand.

My sister let me try out her chalk sock, and it is true what the others have commented: it does not put out a lot of chalk. However, for top-roping it is excellent because it gives you just enough to dry your hands of sweat, however for bouldering or other, more dificult applications I would say that you would want more chalk at each go than this product releases. The reason is that for more dificult climbing you want to have the benefits of the increased friction that the chalk gives you. The need of extra friction is not necesarry for top-roping, and thus for more dificult climbs you can simply dump the chalk in the bag. The only problem with not using a chalk sock that is that there is a chance of the bag getting bumped and all your chalk raining down on your belayer or on the ground, therefore the chalk sock is good for keeping the chalk in one place, rather than in the dirt.

I like the sock. It gives enough chalk to do the job without wasting it or getting everywhere. When the ball is new, it's almost too large. I have a Metolius chalk bag and the ball doesn't leave very much room for my hand to get around it in the bag. I imagine this will get better as I use it more and the volume of the chalk decreases a little. Still, I prefer it to loose chalk.

I buy this product for the members of my facility and we use it for climbing as well as heavy weight lifting. It's great for both uses, but the only problem is with the high level of use it gets, it just doesn't last very long.
