I orginally bought this chain cleaner because my local bike shop wasn't doing a great job with upkeep on my trek. I've used the CM-5 on my bike and friends along with CB-2 and White lighting. The 3 of these products are a must have for a biker of any level.

I use this for my mountain bike chain. It is very easy to set up and works excellently. Pop off the little magnet on the bottom after the first time you use it to clean new components and you will be amazed at all of the little metal bits which come pouring out of the unit. Clean the chain in three stages. First, use degreaser (I use the parktool stuff since it isn't that expensive, but people who are clever with chemicals could probably mix their own and save a bit of money). Next, after cleaning out the chain scrubber thoroughly in running water, use dish soap and warm water. Rinse the chain scrubber again, and then run the chain through it a third time with just warm water to rinse it off. The combination of these three cleaning cycles will make your chain shine with a silvery color you never knew existed beneath all of that grease and dirt. Make sure to remember to grease the chain up again as soon as it dries so that it doesn't rust.
