Comments about SHIMANO M324 Clipless SPD Platform Pedals:
I have a Raleigh Detour which came with flat platform pedals. I use my bike primarily for commuting to work so I need to get my foot down for frequent stop lights. But I also do long rides, of 35 miles on up to Century rides so I need a pedal I can clip into. I actually like the feel of this pedal over the originals when using the non-clip side. The pedal grips my shoes better. I haven't had a chance to test the clip side yet.

Comments about SHIMANO M324 Clipless SPD Platform Pedals:
I use these pedals on my Trek 7100, road and trail. They are easy to install and torque. I ride with a club and have had no issues mechanically with the M324s. Love the idea of having the choice of locking into the pedal, especially for a novice switching from toe clips or a standard pedal to a clipless system. If you can't get locked in right away, switch the pedal around to keep cranking.
I've had no issues with the mechanism that locks into the SPD cleats. The tension is adjustable but I've had it on such a low tension that I could kick out the cleat with my hand and STILL when seated it locks my feet in secure without any 'pop outs'.
These pedals are not counter-weighted. This would probably help with locking in but no complaints thus far.
Strong, fairly priced, and well intended design for those that prefer to have the best of both worlds when cycling.

Comments about SHIMANO M324 Clipless SPD Platform Pedals:
1st Clips I've used and I'm very happy with the purchase. I used on ragrbrai 477 miles/7 days of riding and the clips did exactly what I wanted. Allow me the advantages of clips while still having the versatility to choose the non clip side.
