I was shocked to read on this item's label that it should not be submerged. I thought the whole point of these things was that if you topple over in a canoe with all your stuff, they keep your stuff dry. Apparently not. Additionally, as you'll see in the photo of the instructions, you're expected to use two of these (very pricy) dry sacks for "sensitive electronic equipment." I solely purchased this thing for my camera and phone. If the product itself doesn't do the job you promise it will, then it's defective, or your claims are deceptive, you can't expect your customers to purchase two of your products to get them to work properly. Would you expect to have to wear two pairs of waterproof boots on top of eachother in order for them to be waterproof?
With that said, I bought an additional Ziplock-style dry bag at the sports-goods store that said it was "Scuba-certified" to utilize inside of this Sea To Summit bag just in case, and my phone/camera did just fine through waterfall-hikes, canoe trips, rough water on the speedboat, snorkeling, mangrove-swamp trekking, etc. I never dropped the bag in the water, but I did leave it on the bottom of the canoe at one point, which did have an inch or two of water in it, and everything stayed dry. The sealing mechanism, where you simply roll the top down, seems bizarrely simple, and I cannot fathom how that makes it waterproof, but, there really weren't any better options at the sporting goods store, they all seem to use this same mechanism.
