Comments about PLATYPUS Platy Water Bottle, 1 L:
Decent idea, bad product. It is impossible to clean and dry thoroughly.
It comes with a screw cap instead of a sport one, which makes spilling water on yourself very easy.
Super lightweight but I would take the Klean Kanteen stainless steel bottle over this one any day.
Pros
- Durable
- Good Capacity
- Good Grip
- No Plastic Taste
Cons
Best Uses

Comments about PLATYPUS Platy Water Bottle, 1 L:
I use the Platy on hiking trips in conjunction with a hydration pack. I don't like to put anything but water in my Camelbak, so when I want an electrolyte pick-up, I just fill the Platy with water from the Camelbak, pop in a packet of Gatorade and shake. When I am done, I just re-roll the Platy and am good to go.
The Platy weighs nothing at all and rolls down to about the size of my finger in my day pack.
Pros
- Easy To Carry
- Rugged
- Ultralight
Cons
- Color

Comments about PLATYPUS Platy Water Bottle, 1 L:
I switched to Platypus from my 3L Camelbak bladder. Camelbak makes a fine system, but the Platy gives me a better way of monitoring how much I drink over the course of the day, and also allows me to divide my hydration up between water and water with electrolyte tabs. I own three and I love them!
The bottles are very lightweight (I count every ounce) yet the mounting hole is reinforced many times, and is very tough. It will not rip away from your D-ring mount.
The extra bottles are very comfortable to carry in a hydration-compatible pach Much like a Camelbak, the stored bottles provide an extra level of padding between your back and the rest of your gear.
Some folks have complained that this is difficult to clean, I used the same cleaner I used to clean my Camelbak and it works like a charm...quick and easy, and with no hoses to scrub!
The only complaint though...both the regular cap of the bottle and the sports cap for the bottle are WHITE. For those of us who love to get out in the snow...if you happen to drop the cap in the snow (which is more likely to happen when wearing gloves), it can be very difficult to find. If you take this out in the winter, consider doing something such as wrapping an elastic band around the cap or running a magic marker around the edge of the cap so it can be distinguished by color from the surrounding area should it fall to the ground. An uncapped bottle of water at subfreezing temps is not a good scenario.
A minor nitpick -- the bottle is clear plastic...which is fine for identifying by sight whether you have plain water or whether it was fortified with electrolytes, but to carry a liter of clear fluid a medical-grade plastic bag looks almost like IV clipped to my pack. This can make for looking photographs...although it certainly doesn't detract from the performance of the bottle.
Even with these minor drawbacks, I love my three Platy bottles, and would strongly recommend this to others.
