To be waterprood it simply folds back on itself a few times.
You can do the same with 2 layers of ziplock bags.

I purchased one of these for a friend who sails a sunfish. It worked so well, since it can strap safely to the mast and keep a cel phone dry and safe. She liked it so much that I decided I needed one as well. Good construction and easy to use.

I did an experiment with mine: I put the Sealine See Pouch in a few inches of water for half an hour. A bit of water got into the pouch, even though it was properly closed. I would recommend against using this for anything that must remain completely dry (electronics, important paper documents, medication, etc.) in situations where the pouch might be submerged in water. It does not have a seal, and does not keep every drop of water out. This pouch will protect against splashes and probably quick dips. For the cost, I expect it to do more.
