Comments about MOUNTAINSMITH Strapettes:
ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE MOUNTAIN SMITH AS A "DITCH KIT" FOR A MOTORCYCLE TRIP THROUGH COSTA RICA. THE ADDITION OF THE SHOULDER STRAPS TURNED IT INTO A PERFECT DAY HIKING UNIT.

Comments about MOUNTAINSMITH Strapettes:
The "male" connector at one end of the Strapettes did not mate with the female connectors on my Mountainsmith Tour FX. Had to contact the company to get replacements (free) before I could use the Strapettes.
I carry a number of heavy lenses, and even with the Strapettes the Tour FX sagged. The system works for short uses, but I'll be looking for a true backpack for those all-day photo shoots.

These straps are needed if you're going to put any kind of serious load in the "day" pack, which it has the room for.

Comments about MOUNTAINSMITH Strapettes:
These are the perfect addition to my Mountainsmith lumbar pack. Without them and with a fairly large load, the pack is a little unstable but the Strapettes completely take care of that. It's also nice that when using them, you can leave the waist belt a little loose and can unfasten it altogether to swing the pack around to get to things without totally taking it off. Too bad they don't come with the pack but still they are a great addition and I guess having them as an option is a good choice since not everyone would necessarily be interested.

Comments about MOUNTAINSMITH Strapettes:
the strapettes attach with good clips at one end but the other end straps attach without real secure ends. I had to add good buckles to the other ends at a cost of $4.00 and a trip to REI to make all four ends very secured with quick disconnects.

Comments about MOUNTAINSMITH Strapettes:
Pros: This strap works real well, it is almost like a must to have (if you pack around 10-15 pounds or more, great in reducing overall body injuries due to stress on your individual shoulders caused by the default shoulder strap which came with my "Day Lumbar Pack"
Cons: Could use a bit more padding. The lower half of the straps which connects (simple slip on)to the waist belt of the lumbar pack needs to be stronger, the lower right side of the strap sliped off once so far, i'm a bit worried it might come off again (minor issue). Perhaps i had it twisted wrong.
Overall: this product is a great buy!

Comments about MOUNTAINSMITH Strapettes:
I have the Mountainsmith Cairn lumbar pack which I use for a day trip bag. I normally carry a light fleece pull over and lightweight rain jacket and other gadgets (the 10 essentials) for my adventures in the city, woods, or on the boat. The addition of the strappettes are welcome relief from the waist band. When I have the strappettes on I don't even attach the waistband. I tuck it into itself and just carry the load with the strappettes alone easily. It frees up your arms when shopping or eating.
