I am using this rack to carry a long wheelbase recumbent. It is very easy to use and allows one person to load and unload the bike due to the pivoting feature. It can also be use to carry regular bikes which makes it quite versatile.

I started riding a recumbent about 2 years ago and bought one of these to mount my bike my self. It worked great. My wife just bought a recumbent and wants one. It does what is advertised. Yeah, it's a little tricky the 1st time.

I'm reasonably handy, but it still took me about an hour to get the entire THULE 558P Tandem Carrier put together and on my 2003 Jetta. Now that it's there, I'm not about to take it down, so I live with the increased wind resistance and noise whether there's a bike on it or not. On the other hand, it's stable and allows me to easily put a tandem bike on the top of my car by myself with little effort.

This bike rack serves it's purpose. However, the advertisement that you can pivot the front piece, attach the fork and mount the bike by yourself is not applicable. We have an Audi station wagon (not very tall) and it is too tall to be able to load the bike this way.
