This is a great product for southern California or any other place that receives 1" of rainfall annually. Being from the northeast - we found this product to be very cumbersome in that the bag itself is advertised as coming equipped with storm flaps - well - we drove through a mild rain storm and when we arrived at our destination we were dismayed to find that all of our clothes packed in the Quest soaked with highway storm water (rendering the storm flaps useless).

Also - the same trip mind you - on the way home no less - two buckles broke due to the cold weather. Yes - the buckles were made of plastic. Metal may scratch paint but properly engineered are the suitable material for this component. Dually - material could also be a high strength resin or synthetic material of the sort.

Other than these two major components that lead us to returning the item - we had no complaints.

I recently went on a road trip, and needed a little extra cargo room for my compact car. I liked the idea of a soft bag roof carrier, since it would allow for easier storage when not in use. The Quest comes with its own storage bag, and fold up nice and neat to be thrown on the shelf in the basement. When in use, it just about doubled my trunk space! The only down-side is that at highway speeds (65+) it really take a toll on you gas milage. I went from an average without the bag of 30mpg, down to about 24mpg with it. However, if you want to have that extra carrying capacity without the bulk of a hard case, this is for sure the wayt to go. Very ecconomical, too.

We used the carrier for a trip from SC to IN and it was perfect. It held 3 large duffle bags and allowed us to have plenty of leg room in the car. Just make sure you use waterproof luggage if rain is in the forecast. Also, be prepared to use bungee cords on the side, as the straps provided don't have a long enough reach. For the price, it was everything that I expected.

Works great... super easy to install and to take off. For us, one of the greatest things was that it folds up in a handy storage bag while not in use. One thing we haven't quite figured out yet is that it flapped quite a bit while we were driving. Overall, we were very happy with the ability to take extra stuff that wouldn't normally fit into the SUV.

We would have felt better if there had been a few more tie downs. We added an extra tie down strap to ours.

After downsizing our vehicles for better gas mileage we needed extra space when we went on vacation. We were able to fit our duffle bags full of clothes as well as the sheets and towels that we brought with us. It was a very good purchase.

I did not purchase the cross bars with my car. I was wondering if this would work on a luggage rack with just the side rails. The directions told me how to use it but it didn't work that way. I did find that it worked pefrectly if I just turned the bag 90 degrees, mounded it with the front to one side and loaded it. It stays on great. With my Pontiac Torrent (small SUV) it's wonderful even without the luggage rack cross bars. Perfect for helping me stock up at my local [...](240 miles from home).

I don't know it may need addtional equipment or not.
I tried installing on my car with manual but it does not look stable. Either manual was wrong or it doesn't fit to my car.

Over all a very well constructed roof top luggae carrier, but because it isn't Square, full utilization of the rated capacity isn't really achievable unless one has a lot of "formable" luggage to stuff into all the nooks & cranies left after the solid luggage is loaded.
