Comments about MSR SweetWater Purifier Water Filter:
I was excited to finally be able to abandon the undesirable after-taste of tablets, and the water from the SweetWater Purifier Water Filter by MSR is tasty, clean, and well worth the price of admission. The item is a tad bulky and takes a few moments to set up, but once you get going it doesn't take long to fill multiple bottles and have peace of mind about your drinking water. Well worth it.

Broke twice, after second trip both times. Graciously repaired first time by MSR. Will use Katadyne as it closest to my most dependable PUR filter

Comments about MSR SweetWater Purifier Water Filter:
i have owned this filter for several years now. I have used it on canoe trips and backpacking trips as my primary water filter. I even brought it to bonarroo to filter the sulfer flavored water they offer there.(just to try) What i like best about it is the abliity it gives me to travel without carring allot of water on my person. Like any folter it has to be properly maintained in the field and i recommend giving it a good once over at home after you get back from your trip. i have filterd all degrees of water from murky pond water to fast moving spring melt streams. I will hang the inlet hose over the side of my canoe and filter water before i start to set up camp. (just ot save time). Its is a little more bulky than some other models but its reliability makes up for that. the only complaint i have is a small stainless steel pin that has to be pressed through the handle to set up and take down. it can be tight and will hurt my finger. i addjusted and now carry a dime in the filters bag to use as a barier between my finger and the pin.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Purifier Water Filter:
I used one of these filters back before MSR bought the design. They were just SweetWater filters then. It filtered water fast even in cold/freezing temps in the Smokey Mtns. My miniworks seems to reverse flow/back pump when it's cold and it's also slow compared to the SweetWater design. I havent used the MSR version I just bought but's the same filter with a different name on it. I'll review again if it's a pain to clean but no complaints with my initial use.

Everything it says it does, it DOES. The filtered water had just a hint of a chlorinated taste, but all in all it does the job.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Purifier Water Filter:
I bought this filter for a trip to Yosemite in September. It worked well for the first few bottles of water, but then it began to shoot water out of a release valve which greatly slowed the rate that the water could be filtered. The water that I was filtering was crystal clear, so I don't think that the filter was clogged. I would not recommend this filter. It may be intended for occassional, very low volume use.

Comments about MSR SweetWater Purifier Water Filter:
This filtered water real well. A few freinds and I went on a week elk hunt on the Continental Divide and a few times couldn't find a nice water sourse. You wouldn't believe some of the water we ended up filtering. We all had our doubts, but this unit did fine. It was a hassle cleaning almost after every pump, but worked well and water tasted great. No one got sick and we filtered some real nasty water.

Merchant response: Of course we hate to hear you are disappointed with your MSR Sweetwater Purifier. These filters have a long history of being well made, easy to use, and durable in the field. We will take this opportunity to shine the light on our Satisfaction Guarantee. Which is…Our first priority is your complete satisfaction with your Eastern Mountain Sports® purchase. If you are dissatisfied for any reason and have your original store receipt or web invoice, we will exchange or repair the item in question or provide a full refund. That said…You can always reach us here in Customer Service at 888.463.6367 if we can assist you in any way. With regard to your experience…it sounds like an o-ring or something else in the pump house is missing or has been dislodged. Some suggestions…you can…a) take apart and put the unit back together if you feel comfortable doing so…b) take it to a retail location to have a shop employee work on it…c) send it back and get a replacement…and d) if you need a purifier, stick with the Sweetwater, and if not, consider an alternative higher volume type filter…such as the Katadyn Vario or the Hiker Pro. The Vario would give you the ability to get some finer particulate matter out of the water with its ceramic piece…but if you are drawing water in and around glaciers the Hiker Pro would be a better choice.
