So I am new to the world of hiking with my dog a 1 year old Siberian husky. But I am not new to backpacking I have over 20 years experience in this area.
The information I share here came from a breeder/trainer with over 40 years of dog expertise.

Here is the thing about this pack, it is designed wrong for a dog body.
When dogs carry a load they need to carry it on their shoulders, and the lower belt needs to be secured around the ribs not the tummy.

This pack after two different size trials the pack when full would slip down on her back thus forcing her to carry her load in the middle of her back (not good). The clever loop for hooking the leash to only exacerbated the problem so I had to ditch using that. The lower belt was also a problem because it fastened around her belly and over many miles would rub on a very tender area of her body.

I have gone with another company product that produces a reasonably priced quick release pack that has a separate harness for adjustably.

I purchased one medium, 58 pound dog, one small, 35 pound dog. Both fit well with little complaint while donned. Takes some attention to fit them properly. The cargo packs are the same size for both dog sizes. Looks right on the medium and to big on the small. In fact the cargo packs more than doubled the width of my little blue healer girl.

I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF DOG PACKS BUT NONE ACTUALLY ALLOW MY DOG TO CARRY WEIGHT COMFORTABLY. THIS PACK IS USEFUL AND MY DOG LOVES IT. IF YOU HAVE AN EAGER DOG, THIS PACK MAKES THEM PART OF THE ACTION. REGARDLESS OF THE PAMPERED PET SYNDROME, DOGS LOVE TO WORK AND PLAY. THIS PACK ALLOWS BOTH.

after 3 major hikes through mud and heavy rain this dog pack is still tough enough for 100 more!

my dog is 60lb. and this size pack is just right. we have done up to four day treks on the A.T. in Maine and we always have room enough for his food/gear. this is a good product and i would buy one again if needed.

This pack is great for my dog. He carries his own small water bottles and snacks so I don't have to. Plus, it gives him a bit more exercise when the weather is bad and we don't walk as far.
