Comments about RUFF WEAR Approach Dog Pack, Medium:
The pack itself is nice looking, fit my dog well, and she never seemed to mind when I put it on. She didn't have a problem carrying the weight I put in it. I bought two platypus 1 L bottles, with them each falf full she carries 1 L incase we are on a very dry portion of the trail with no water source for her. It made a more economical hydration pack for her.
The first hike it was great! The second hike it started to fray, and the third time we hiked, one bag ripped and I had to remove all the contents and carry it myself. Now I have a nice looking, frayed and ripped dog pack which I can't use.
I love the Ruff Wear line and I am hoping that it was just one that slipped through Quality Control. I plan to buy another one and see how it goes the second time around.
Also, my dog stays on the trail, by my side, when we hike. So it isn't like she was in the woods the whole time. However, I feel that the pack should be able to stand the abuse a dog will put it though.
Until I give this pack another chance, I can not say I would recomment it to a friend.

Comments about RUFF WEAR Approach Dog Pack, Medium:
I got this pack after getting a few far-inferior, but similar packs from other manufacturers that ripped or frayed. Well-made and sturdy, it was well worn on our 90-pound Golden. Two 2-liter water bags and about 2 days dry food is all this pack can handle, but it worked well for us in the desert heat. No problems adjusting it at all. The waterproof zipper comes in handy when our dog goes submarining-around. The pack is well-designed, and carries most of the weight forward, which is anatomically correct.Plenty of rings to attach stuff to makes it an extremely versatile design, great tow-dog design too! Great handle placement, let's you pick up the dog (grunt!)without harm and assist over obstacles. We really like this pack and it's tough as nails, too.

Comments about RUFF WEAR Approach Dog Pack, Medium:
I had a different pack for my dog, but it was too big. Please note that reviews on many packs complain that they run large. My 65 pound Golden was too small for the large. So I got a medium Ruffwear Approach pack. He has plenty of room, and I bet it would fit some much larger dogs. I highly recommend looking up the chest circumfrence sizing chart that exists for this item. This pack has as much padded protection as a human backpack! Unlike some packs, every strap section can be adjusted for best fit. It fits my narrow-chested, lanky Golden great. It only rotated a bit when I purposely loaded only one side. I can't wait to get out on the trail, but at least he is helping out carrying food home from the farmers' market. :-)

I ordered this pack to start doing some hiking with my dog. The pack fits great and is made very well. We haven't used it much yet, but it was exactly the quality I was hoping it would be.
