Read the instructions, and this press will make great coffee. The key is to grind the beans coarsely, and you'll have no problems. And since the grounds stay beneath the filter and you use the lid to guide the press, you've got a built-in travel mug and you don't have to mess with any cleaning until after you're done drinking.

There are minor faults. If you accidently fail to properly seat you filter ring or cover you might have problems. Coffee grounds tend to get all over the place including in your coffee. A finer filter or larger ground might help here. Maybe they can come up with a paper filter version? As far as Oily? Well that comes with cooking outdoor. The oils are what give the coffee full flavor. Just rinse out the grounds (which make a bigger mess) using hot water then wipe with a paper towel. No soap needed. Otherwise, this is the best french press out there for camping. Insulated, Durable, Simple to use once seated properly, and Non-breakable.

I had high hopes for this contraption and was excited about real coffee while hiking. Oh dear, how wrong I was...horrible coffee and a load of coffee grinds and an oily jetboil pot to deal with on the trail.
Love the jetboil, it's great but for me I'd rather wait for a decent, hassle free cup of joe when I hit a town. That's heaven.
