Comments about YAKTRAX Pro Traction Device:
I purchased the Yaktrax because I live in North Jersey and have an 800 foot steep driveway. The recent ice/snow storms left me unable to walk down the driveway without falling. After several falls, I purchased the Yaktrax recommended by a friend. They were somewhat effective, but the ice was so bad I still slipped. I then purchased the MICRO spikes to resolve my problem.

Comments about YAKTRAX Pro Traction Device:
Wish I had these last winter! I read the comments from others....yes, they have limited effectiveness in deep snow, and they do pull the toe upward. I used them on both dirt road/trails and paved roads after the precipitation. They're perfect for snow/sleety/slushy central Connecticut winter weather running. I have no excuses now....

Comments about YAKTRAX Pro Traction Device:
I used a set of YakTrax Pro to provide a saftey factor on my footing while hiking up the 90+ switchbacks enroute to Mt Whitney CA July 8, 2009. Icey conditions on the trail in the morning made the footing treacherous. The product was light to pack in, easy to use, and very effective. I felt very confident while using the YakTraxs that my footing was sure (of course within reasonable limits). The trail had spotty ice areas and packed snow, in these areas the YakTraks provided extra traction. On the gravel and sandy areas the effect was neutral. At minimal areas on flat smooth rock surfaces I had to use a bit of restaint to avoid slipping. This was far less problamatic than the snow & ice. My son and I are very glad we carried a pair with us to use. A sprained ankle or twisted knee is very tough to deal with at 13K feet enroute to Mt. Whitney.
So far I have only used the YaxTrax Pro's for a mile or so on mixed terrain ie. ice, packed snow, sand, gravel,& rock. The units seemed to hold up well and showed no sign of break down. Longlasting is an attribute that remains to be seen at this point.

Comments about YAKTRAX Pro Traction Device:
While the Yaktrax Pro MAY be appropriate for walking around town they should not be sold as a device for hiking. [...]I purchase them for use on the trail when crampons or snowshoes are unnecessary. What a mistake. The Yaktrax slip off and aren't nearly as good as similar devices such as Stabilicers or even better MicroSpikes by Kahtoola. I am going to return my Yaktrax to EMS and purchase one of these options ASAP.

Comments about YAKTRAX Pro Traction Device:
The product grips well on packed snow and ice. But the sizing as listed on the package is much smaller. I had to switch for large for my mother instead of small - she wears size W-9 boots ...

Comments about YAKTRAX Pro Traction Device:
These are ok for home use, but if take them on the trail they break. If you walk on any rocks while hiking the rubber breaks and they become more of a hindrance than a help. I use mine to shovel the driveway. If you are looking for trail traction, get micro spikes or crampons.

Comments about YAKTRAX Pro Traction Device:
I was excited to try this product, but that quickly changed to frustration, then disappointment. First, I had a lot of trouble getting them to stay put on my shoes, they kept slipping off the toe necessitating many, many trail side adjustments. The disappointment came when they fell apart on the second hike with less than 10 miles total on them. Very sad.
