EVEN WITH THIS FLOAT, BALANCING AND RE-ENTERING A KAYAK IS TRICKY. TRY IT IN SHALLOW WATER, NEAR SHORE.
IF YOUR KAYAK DOES NOT HAVE A DRY HATCH OR FLOATATION BAGS, THE KAYAK MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH BOUYANCY TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS DEVICE.
IT IS A RESCUE DEVICE, AND SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A TOY.
WEAR A LIFE JACKET.
WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THIS IN MOVING WATER.
I practised self-rescue using this paddle float, and it works. My kayak has a stern dry hatch, and i had to attach the paddle to the stern. The bow did not have enough bouyancy. It might work with the bow end if there are floatation bags in the bow.
With life jacket on, it inflates quickly and easily, with just a few breaths ! Easy to attach to the paddle. (follow the instructions that come with it.)
I weigh 200 lbs and it provided enough buoyancy. Re-entry into the kayak was still tricky, but it can be done.
I tried re-entry without the paddle float - virtually impossible.
Rubber material is heavy gage and durable. The 2 inflation tubes have quick twist closing valves that work great. Yellow color shows up well. Comes with a tether so it doesnt float away or sink if you capsize and it falls out.
Deflates easily, and takes up very little space.
