Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports SCARPA Men's Kailash GTX Backpacking Boots, Wide:
The Scarpa Kailash GTX is a great boot. I actually tried a normal width version on at a local store but knew I needed a wide toe box due to bunions and foot swell. When I saw that Scarpa offered the same boot in a wide (BXX) version I ordered it, only to find that there wasn't any noticable width gain in the toebox area, in fact, the boot seemed to fit more tightly than the normal width boot I tried on at the local store. I had to return the boots.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports SCARPA Men's Kailash GTX Backpacking Boots, Wide:
Boot seemed narrow at first and I almost returned it. But after wearing around the house for a day, they seemed to break-in, so I decided to keep them. Have only gone on one hike so far (Kinsman Ridge Trail up Cannon Mt.), but it was a wet day and I had no problem slipping and sliding on the slabby parts of the trail. No problems with blisters or hot spots. Boots seem to come broken in. The weird thing about them is that, although the name says "Wide," the size marking inside the boot says "US 12M." I wear a 12E in a street shoe and these fit pretty well.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports SCARPA Men's Kailash GTX Backpacking Boots, Wide:
After receiving the 2009 Backpacker magazine editor choice award, I really wanted a pair of these boots. There are no Scarpa dealers in or near Houston, so I was not able to try the boots on and had to order them on-line. I typically wear an 11.5 shoe in a "D" width. For my first order, I ordered 3 pairs in an 11.5, 11.7, and a 12, to check the sizing. The 11.5 appeared to fit length-wise, but the boot was way too narrow. I returned all three pairs and ordered the 11.7 (for extra toe room) in the "Wide" width. This boot was still too narrow for my "D" width foot. In my assessment, the normal widith is more of a B/C width and the wide width is more of a C/D width. It is a beautiful boot, but I had to return the wide version because it was just too narrow. I have no experience wearing the boot, but suggest you give this boot serious consideration if you have a narrow foot.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports SCARPA Men's Kailash GTX Backpacking Boots, Wide:
These are some of the best boots I've ever worn. They were comfortable right out of the box and fit even better after a quick break-in. I broke them in during my job as a security contractor in Afghanistan where good boots are a must. But I mainly purchased them for a 5-day climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro. Through, literally, 5 days of rain and 9 straight hours in the snow from basecamp to the summit and back - and through 78 kms of hiking - these boots remained waterproof, comfortable, and warm. They even gave great support and fit on the steep downhill. And through it all there's hardly a sign of wear and tear. I couldn't give a higher recommendation. Absolutely outstanding.

After 20 years in the US Military & 6 ½ years as an Independent Contractor, the SCARPA Kailash GTX Wide are the best boots I've ever owned for medium to heavy loads in Iraq and the rugged Mountainous Terrain of Afghanistan, Bar None.
