Comments about BLACK DIAMOND Xenos Climbing Harness:
The tabs that hold the ice clippers are not well made and may fail. As this holds your ice screws that is very bad. My harness is apparently not the only one that had this issue. EMS was extremely responsive in helping me with this problem. If Black Diamond fixes this issue it will be a really good winter harness.
I couldn't in good conscience recommend this harness until this problem is dealt with by the manufacture.
Pros
- Comfortable
- Durable
- Versitile
Cons
- Chafes
Best Uses
- Indoor
- Long Climbs
- Outdoor
Comments about BLACK DIAMOND Xenos Climbing Harness:
This is the best harness I have ever worn! I've had it for about a full year and I'm more than satisfied with it. It's incredibly light. Feels like no matter how much gear I have I'll always have a place for it with the extra slots. It doesn't matter if I'm belaying for hours or falling over and over again on a climb it's still incredibly comfortable. The only time you feel it there is if you climb shirtless and then you get a bit of an uncomfortable rub here and there, but there's nothing that can be done about that. Love this harness, it's worth every penny.

Comments about BLACK DIAMOND Xenos Climbing Harness:
I am a very active winter climber (climb 5 days a week between guiding and recreational climbing. The Xenos harness is a classic example of Black Diamond's engineering. They make the prettiest, nicest looking products that don't necessarily function well. They leave the product testing to the consumer. The harness fits well and climbs well. The kinetic core design really works. What doesn't work: -the leg loop buckles (they slip over the day) -the buckles on the elastic keeper straps on the back of the leg loops don't stay tight either (I cut mine and tied knots in them)-the instantly fraying belay loop -the clipper slot recall and the gear loop that could rip out from that, jettisoning all of your gear-you need to use the Petzl Ice Clippers which have an extra flap to anchor the clipper. The BD Clippers fully flip around while climbing making it difficult at times to pull screws off. This stems from loose fabric where you slide the clippers into place.-lack of general durability in a $100+ harness

"It has come to our attention that the construction of some of the Ice Clipper slots on our 2009 Xenos harnesses are not satisfactory and may become unstitched during use. We became aware of this at the same time many of you did, just as the ice season kicked into high gear in the last couple of weeks.
During recent lab and field-testing, it appears that approximately one out of the six slots found on any individual Xenos harness may be affected and unfortunately it is not something you can inspect for or visually see. This is NOT A CUSTOMER SAFETY ISSUE, as it won’t affect the harnesses' ability to hold falls—it’s a performance and durability issue that we are not happy with and want to resolve as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The solution? Send your Xenos in and we’ll take care of you. We will be replacing the waist belt of any Xenos harness starting in late January. But due to limited initial quantities of replacement waist belts, we cannot guarantee immediate turn around. Unfortunately, it may push past the ice season before you get a replacement.
If you want to keep using your Xenos through the rest of the ice season, simply back-up the Ice Clipper slot with the black rubber keeper strap that comes with the Ice Clipper. Wrap the keeper strap completely around the waist belt and you’re good to go until you’re ready to send the Xenos into us.
If/when you decide to send your Xenos harness in, please include your return address and contact information. You can send the Xenos directly to:
