I needed a pack to carry all of my winter gear for a long day hike/ski trip that I was planning. It needed to carry my hiking boots, wind proof gear, food, water, and emergency equipment for a long winter hike. I tried on several different packs at the store and I ended up choosing this pack. It has not disappointed me. I have used it on two all-day winter hikes/ski trips. It has carried all of the listed items above as well as my snow shoes and cramp-ons. It is very comfortable and stable. The waste belt has two zipper pockets for small items, and the belt sits nicely on the hips and is very comfortable and adjustable. I really like the side zipper that allows access to the large compartment contents rather than going in through the top and removing all of the top loaded items to get to the bottom of the pack.

I actually was fitted with this pack by another outfitter...chose EMS 'cuz it was on sale! I have a narrow but athletic build and needed a pack that would accommodate all my gear efficiently. Have used other brands & friends packs & love this one the best.
